Shoebox Coupe Mild Custom Build.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by kiwiandy, Oct 21, 2011.

  1. I had to do exactly the same thing to my rockers. But over all the part is great. Especially the curve to the door bottom, bang on. That's the hard part.

Thanks. I have purchased through SBF.com and the service has been excellent. I have the trunk floors, rear beneath trunk lid and lower front fenders yet to install.

It takes some time (read quite alot!) but worth it in the end. Thanks.

Well it's been quite awhile and I've had a bit of drama but I'm back into it.

Current plan is to install the springs and blocks (from Chris at Shoebox Central) which will drop it down and allow me once the engine and trans are in to fit the drive shaft. I will then fit the lime works column shifter and master cylinder. From there I can install the new rockers and floors and build the new transmission tunnel.

I also want to fire the engine and bed it in as it's going to sit for a bit before it's driven.

Thanks for looking and it shouldn't be this long again between posts.

    Andy

The last of my required sheet metal has arrived from Shoebox Central.
I've enlisted some professional help to take it to the next stage and got it booked in for the end of this month. In preparation I've pulled the engine and trans to provide space to work on the firewall.
Everything going to plan I'll get the body finished, blasted and into epoxy then high fill primer.
I then plan to separate the body and chassis and blast the chassis.

Great to see that you are getting back into this car. Your attention to details on the panel work will make it one of the best bodies out there. Keep it up.

A few pics of the progress this week. It's cool to see the parts I've collected over many years being grafted into the car. Stoked with the figment and the gaps.
The aim is to use only what's required of the patch panels and keep as much original steel as reasonable.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Thanks for the feedback.

I'm looking to get out to the body shop in the next couple of weeks as the guy doing it has kindly allowed me to come and assist to keep my hand in it.
I'm also now looking to possibly off load my SBF 302 and C4 combo and change out to an Olds 324 engine. The 302 was always a compromise to the style and period of the build. All the issues with fitting the 324 it seem would be overcome by changing the car to RHD.
    Lots to think about!

  23. Funny that you mention changing to rhd ,I was wondering why with all the work you have done you hadn,t already done it . Just to piss you off my 50 coupe came into oz from Nevada and did not have 1 speck of rust in it ...

A few more pics as it sits today. I've got some time off work in the coming weeks so heading out to help with the body work. Fortunate to have found a professional really skilled body guy who's willing to let me work in and learn some new skills
