Just finishing watching Hot Rod Gang. Talk about BS; nobody was driving a "patina" rod or sporting any tats! Totally unrealistic. LOL

I have it on a VHS tape. Old hot rod movies are neat. I like the ones from the '50's.

I was impressed with "Hot Rod" (1950) It may have been restored but the picture was sharp and clear, authentic looking rods, and a lot of actual sound was used. It even had good footage and sound of the cops 45ci. Harleys

Yep, they were old and corny, but it was good to see all the old cars, famous or not. But wheel banging / nerfing for fun? Really? People did that? And I don't think Fast n Furious was a rod pix, mostly sports cars, but I liked it regardless.

What I found most tiresome was the "military training film" style intro on the first one (which was done a lot on shorts, feature films and do***entaries in the 50s) and all the lecturing about being safe rodders. In some ways, these flix are more PR efforts than feature films - ala early NHRA shorts and the training films that had guys like Regan in them during WWII. Or... perhaps it was because so many post-WWII military filmmakers were bursting out into the commercial world? And they hadn't realized it was no longer necessary to dumb down the plot line or explain everything twice any longer? I mean, did they really think the public then, (ie your folks?) were so stupid they needed an into / narrative to give us the set-up, plot line, or the moral of the story? Gary

I liked seeing "Butch" from Our Gang all grown up, still bullying kids, and trying to steal their gal. Only this time it wasn't Alfalfa and Darla. I wonder if "Woim" was his getaway driver?

Which movie had Butch in it? When I watched Hot Rod I noticed it was produced by ****ram which is a coincidence as they my second favourite model kit manufacturer when I was a kid was ****ram. The hero's car was supposed to be a tired old stock condition jalopy but it already had custom louvers in the hood and different gauges as well as a dash mounted rear view mirror which apparently could switch to a windshield frame mounted mirror at anytime! LOL

The first movie of the evening, Hot Rod, had Butch in it. I didn't notice the mirror. LOL! I'll have to watch it again.

  16. Have it on DVD plus more. Hot rod movies a better then regular tv or movies. Even with all the corn ball acting and b ratedness, the cars however brief are worth it.

such bad movies but when I was a kid just the chance to see some hot rods was worth the price of the movie. A Barris hot rod, I think the ala kart sitting in one of the garages. Love the dancing and as previously stated the 45 ci Harley sound.

Last night I watched Hot Rod Gang. Holy corniness Batman. I had seen it years ago and barely made it through the entire movie. This time around it was really corny and I fast forwarded through large portions of it. It should have been named High School Honor Society Key Club. Hit and run lover, indeed!

The cars were cool, but not enough of them. Before and after the airing the TCM host stated that these movies were made for the drive-in theater market and made as cheap as possible in order to turn a profit.

I also watched the sequel (TCM host stated this, not me.) about the "gang" moving their club house to an old haunted house. Jeez O Pete, I thought I was watching a Hardy Boys Mystery mated with one of those beach blanket bimbo movies. Hardly enough hot rods in it worth struggling through the entire movie for. Hopefully, if I had been viewing this masterpiece in a drive-in back in the day I would have been to second base (under the bra) in the back seat of the car and not even paying attention to what was going on up on the big screen. Lets all go to the snack bar!!!!

BTW, I love how in all these movies they speed up the film for all the scenes involving the hot rods in motion.
