IMG_5419 2.jpg Just picked up a clean 1963 Galaxie G-code car. Unfortunately the 406 is long gone, my hopes is to once again have this full size ford back to its full glory. I am currently on the look for any 406 parts, namely proper heads and 6v try power set up. I will consider any other parts also, so if you have or know someone who has any 406 junk please let me know. I'd love to have a 406 back where it belongs.

Oh man, I just sold a tri power manifold and carb set up last week, had it on the shelf 30 years!
The tri power setups are on E-bay all the time, there was 6 last week alone, used them to price mine out.
    Love 406's.

Mind if I ask what you got for it? Just to give me a idea. Ya they're harder to find than most but I gotta try! Thanks

$1300. Had the air cleaner but missing the linkage and fuel log. I sure the carbs would need to be gone thru.

If you are not hung up on the date codes, I would be looking for a 390 truck block and building a 445 stroker using one of Survival Motorsports kits. Of course, I can understand the desire to build an original 406 as well. Hopefully your money tree is fully grown and can spare a good de-limbing.....

Haha, I knew I wouldn't get away with that one! Btw when we talked on the phone my phone kept cutting out, I'd like to have a look at those carbs you have.

I'm trying not to get hung up on date codes, but I've wanted a 406 for many years. Unfortunately my money tree will be the deciding factor

Stroked 390 , more power and much cheaper. Just buy some valve covers that say 406 on them. I had a 62 406 many years ago . Great engine.

I have a stick bell housing, flywheel, starter, generator with brackets and some other items. I took them off of a 63 - 406 Galaxy, in 1974.

Check south jersey Craig's list, I think there's a complete engine on there

I started with a 391 truck block, milled the deck some and installed 406 flattop pistons, Oregon camshaft, C2SE heads, shorty manifolds and a 3x2 intake for my 61 Starliner. No one know the difference unless I tell them. Only 406 parts I have left is a used C3AZ-AA camshaft and lifters.
There was a 3x2 intake over on the Feforum yesterday. Nice car.

This is the route I am leaning towards, I'd like to have 406 heads and proper tri-power, looks proper and is to certain extent anyway. And saves me some pennies along the way.

Be careful, Most 390 blocks won't take the 0.080" overbore required to get to std. 406 dimensions. The blocks that can are generally 391 FT units like what 57Custom300 used, but even those can be hit and miss. Of course a 406 and 428 share the same bore, but good 428 blocks are getting damn near as hard to find as 406's.

Found that out a couple years ago when I needed a 428 block, oh what fun that was. This seems even more of a "better do your homework" job. I think the 390 truck block is gonna be the way to go.

If you build a 406, here are the cam specs.

391 truck block and steel crank , turn crank nose to proper dimensions, use 390 4V Heads , tri power intake , aftermarket solid cam , lifters , adjustable roller rockers . Great street engine , no one knows but you , and you ain’t tellin are you ?

Is that the one from the Keewenaw that was on Craigslist last summer?

  21. The pre-62 FE blocks supposedly are heavier castings; I recall one of the car mags building a 428 based on a early 352 block 'back in the day'. But they still recommended having it sonic checked....

And don't forget the 361 truck motors; same bore as the 390.
