Terry, Could you please list the cars, I may have seen some of them if they come East and race at Lime Rock. Googled your Ferrari, very nice car. I prepped and painted a 166 back in the early 1980's beautiful car. Bob
Someone needs to photoshop the people at the concours into the dry lake pic and the dry lake into the fancy version of that car and then see how everyone feels.
The seven specials going to Pebble Beach are: Baldwin Mercury (296 cu in flathead, far left in my avatar), Canon Mk1 (Ardun Ford), Parkinson Jaguar (right car in avatar), Tatum (320 cu in GMC 12 port, second from right in avatar), Barneson Chrysler (body by Hagemann), Murphy envelope bodied Kurtis (nail valve Buick) and the Huffacker Healey. All seven were built in California, and all but the Kurtis are still here, so its unlikely they've been seen in competition on the East Coast. We did take the Parkinson Jag to Elkhart Lake about ten years ago.
I am a big fan of sympathetic restorations. Here, from Hemmings: "Somewhere between fully restored and all-original is the sympathetic restoration, usually implemented to preserve as much of a car’s originality as possible, while preventing it from damage and deterioration."
I assume given the many incarnations this car went through after this stage that the nose piece was no longer with the car so over restored or not for a craftsman today to remake the nose and try an duplicate all the hammer marks would be just as disingenuous as what is on the car now. It still wouldn't be original so why try and pretend that it is?
