OK guys thanks. Poppin bubbles, didnt think of that. Well my headliner is on good shape, i wont do that: Maybe use this in a no-feet area, such as upper toe panel, under seats, trans tunnel?
If you're going to use a molded carpet, it won't be that big of a deal to replace the bubble stuff, or add to it, down the road, but if you're doing a glue down carpet, 'd strongly suggest gettig it adequately done the first time. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for your input Texas, I appreciate hearing your opinion. Only now did I notice those "flyes" on the pic above, theyr from my beatn up cell phone camera. Seats pictures:
Hey thanks allout. I think they look really good. I drew what I wanted and found this old upholsterer living nearby that pulled it. Now I've got a new old friend =) Worked all his life as upholsterer for the police and for one of our bus companies. Also made me the molded carpets. And nothing near expensive.
Thanks guys. The devil is in the details, I mean little things take a lot of time to get right, clean and looking good. Yesterday night I test fitted the front carpet. Some t******* to do. Also re***embled the gas tank, threw in 20 lts of 98 octane and fired her up! Boy did I miss it, didnt start the car for some 3 months. Got into bed at 1pm all dirty, stinking of gas and fumes, but happy.
Hey guys. Back from my vacation, hence the absence. Test drove her a week or so on our back and main roads, after the floor panel replacement and all. Here are some pics: Keep it up
great pics, thanks for sharing. That upholstery looks really really good. How many miles in that week?
Thanks guys. Well Texas, I didnt test drove her for a week. Sorry, I meant a week ago or so I went for a test drive. Drove some 80km, some 50 miles? Notice a ressonation near the clutch pedal that I've been chasing. Ended up being a exhaust clamp touching the floor brace /support. But she's confortable and smells good inside!
Cleared road worth inspection today! Allways a kind of tense moment. Anyways im planning on replacing my fuel and brake lines during winter and also doing some other cleaning under the car. Do you think it is ok to have the car standing on 4 equally distributed support points, wheels off the ground, seating only on the frame rails for a longer period of time, say maybe a month or two? Dont have access to elevator or pit, so i allways have to drag my a&€ on the ground! Thanks
car will be just fine on 4 points............most have been on 4 jacks for years during a build, even decades. got to be better than sitting on uneven ground up to the axles in mud. Lower door skin panels........I will be some time in the future. When I had my accident last year, I picked up a door in Kansas just in case I couldn't repair mine. I knew it had some rust thru at the bottom, but after driving 400 miles to get it and not knowing what else I could find, I bought it anyway (200.) As it turned out, as I posted in pics here on my build thread, I was able to save my damaged door and didn't have to use the replacement door. I had it media blasted inside and out and found the rust was a bit worse than I had hoped for, but definetly salvageable. I replaced the metal on the lower horizontal surface of the door frame and I had some 18 ga 5" wide strips bent with a 3/4(?)" 90* flange to replace the lower outer skin. I just never got that far. I would have had the sheet metal supply place brake the angle on the panel more than 90, but they couldn't without some lengthy labor. I just figured I'd close up the angle somehow to get it started on the door. Not much help, but I can say once you start cutting on that door, make sure you have it clamped to a bar/brace/whatever to keep it straight.
Forgot........before you remove the door to do the work, make sure you drill some small holes thru the hinge and inner door panel to make locating / reinstalling the door much much easier. You may think you have a small area to patch, that won't require door removal, but once you start cleaning it out / media blasting, etc., you'll probably find it's more extensive than it appears now (almost guaranteed)
Had my car on jackstands for 6 months with no ill effects. Only tidbit of info to add is to make sure it's good and solid before you start crawling around under it.
I appreciate your comments and input guys, I always like to read your opinion. Since August I've just been enjoying the car and driving it, so putting it on stands for a while is something that I dislike doing. Anyway, I've gotta do it. Aside brake and fuel lines (with which I dont have a problem at the time- I just dont trust them fully) There is still work to be done on the underside of the floor panels, so, onto jacks it goes. But only when rains start - I've got a bad leak on the p*** side of the windshield and I avoid driving in the rain. That and the fact the I still dont have the newport conversion. Thanks
