Hello. I just bought a Ford 1933 frame with a tudor title and with a beat up fordor body as a bonus I hope to build something rowdy and nice out of this and i guess it´s time for me to start looking for parts...my question is, will a 1934 hood fit a 1933 body and grille? Thankful for help!
you will need a 34 grille to fit the 34 hood properly , should be easy to find someone willing to trade that 33 grille for a 34....... will fit the body ok , hood latch location will need a little modification
The 33 Ford hood has a single latch in the middle bottom of the hood side panels, the 34 has two latches. HRP
A 33 hood is what I looking for then...good luck to me is all I can say Thank you for your help guys!
34 hood or grille is easy to find , a decent 33 hood if you find someone willing to sell might cost you your first born son
A 1934 Ford Hood. No reveals around radiator, straight louvers, and two latches. They are also shorter than a 1933. The 33 hood has reveals around the front lip and down the front of the side panels. This photo shows the curved louvers and single latch. The hoods are very sought after items and bring the money. The latches don't work well and that is why Henry went to the two latch system. You will need a 33 hood which will run you between $1500 -$2000 in our area. Rootlieb is the only source for the hood sides which are made by Hercules in FL — High quality pieces. As mentioned, they are different due to the grille differences. The cheapest route is using a 34 hood and grille which are easier to locate and fit the cowl. There is a notch in the 34 cowl for the hood to rest and the 33 has none but is not a big deal.
Although it took months to arrive; I took delivery of my Rootlieb hood from Macs auto parts today. Mac's have sales with significant discounts all the time. If you're not in a hurry signup for notifications to get 15% off - I have also had emails for sales lasting a few hours for 20% off. That means a new hood for much less than $1k. You could modify a 33 hood to fit a 34 grille but it would require a high level of skill to go the other way.
I have seen some very talented metal shapers extend the 34 hood to make it fit the 33 grille including the beads. Lots of work but doable.
Thank you everbody for your time and especially Pewsplace for the pictures and all, can't get much clearer than that! My plan is to rebuild the 1933 fordor body into a radically chopped 5w. This is a long term project because I have to collect the parts piece by piece. It's like that old Johnny Cash song except I have to pay for mine
For anyones interest, I will not harm the Fordor body. It will sail on as it is. maybe my taste got refined in this process...
