why is it such a big deal about the "back to the tops" or BTTT???

    I really don't understand it.

I get it if some dude is bringing it back to the top every hour... and I honestly can't remember but a handful of times thats happened. maybe cause hey were getting deleted??

I see no problem with "back to the top for the night crowd, weekend crowd", etc. Or a price change or more pictures cause you've gotten a few emails from different people asking bout the same thing...

It seems like its making MORE work for the mods???

The changes that have been made are bitchin... ESPECIALLY loaction.

I don't read every post... been a few times I've skimmed the title of something and passed... after seeing it at the top a few times, I've checked in and whoa! something bitchin.

The classifieds went from an active forum... to really stale (no replies)... to kinda feeling like my Mom is scolding me everytime I post in there...

I'm not trying to stir the shit... I just really don't understand why its such a big deal.

    This is your Mother replying.

Post more pictures to your ad to help sell it - no problem.
Change the price on your ad to help sell it - no problem.

What you didn't see over a period of time in the past was guys complaining about a LOT of ads doing BTTT.
Ads getting kicked to page 4-5 in a matter of hours.

I will bet a 6 pack of your favorite beverage that if there was not some kind of structure on BTTT that we would be back to square 1 with in a week and then complaints would come about all the BTTT and guys having to go looking for newer ads.

Then it would be open season to post comments unrelated to buying the part.

We' re not going to make everyone happy on this - point taken.
there is nothing wrong with trying to give all classifieds ads some prime time.

We brought back replies, so you could know where you were as far as replies and questions which for the most part seems to be working Ok.

Ok....... I'll think about that one and discuss with Ryan.

Yeah... we were fielding complaint after complaint from folks that didn't have time to "BTT" their post every couple of hours. Their ads were just dissapearing... It's a tough one for sure, but I'm not convinced we are going down the wrong road just yet...

so, we're cool with more pics? answering questions about the item for sale? changing the price? even if its before 3 days??

I may get some grief on this....but...another forum I am on ( and have been for a number of years) has NO btt...on any of its forum..classified,wanted,general topic,etc...I LOVE it..I can always see whats been posted new..the only "drawback is..like the H.A.M.B. ..it gets alot of traffic..so if a question goes unanswered (and rarly does)..all ya do is repost it.. sure, some posts get burried rather quickly, but the post from a year ago about something stupid on e-bay will n ever surface..like I said,if its worthy of it, it is sticky'ed to the top, or simply reposted ( I personally dont like BTT  )..I scan the for sale ads here a couple times a day,and (even though Im new) have already bought a few items from members..Its nice not to have to "dig" through all the stuff Im not interested in to scan the new ads...Also..I am new to these "older" cars (my other car is a 65 fastback mustang),and I am just "sitting back" and reading and trying to figure out which direction I want my 'ole 51 to go...(forward,I hope:p )...

    Maybe I'm weird (okay...we all know the answer to THAT! :D )...

...but I kind of LIKED the "No replies" policy in the classified forum that was going on for a while. It kept them from BEING another discussion forum, and ads didn't fall to page ten in two hours.

The old "Gee I wish I was closer" replies and the eight billion BTTT bumps were always annoying. Even the "covert BTTT" bumps that one guy does were getting old.

I liked the way it was changed so that only the person who posted the ad could modify or reply to it (aside from moderators, of course). This made it easy to scan the classifieds maybe a couple times per day and see if there was anything you were interested in. If there WAS, you just sent the seller a PM and got the ball rolling!

No "Hey I really think that's cool!" or "PM sent" replies or anything...the ad just hung there to be read as it is...a CLASSIFIED AD, not an invitation to open a discussion!

(Kinda like when you put a car up for sale in the local paper, but don't put signs in the window while it's parked in front of your house. That way, you only get calls from people who may actually be wanting to BUY the car, and you don't have to deal with people passing by and bothering you for test flights or stopping to dream aloud about the 'one they had just like it' or what they'd do with it IF they actually intended to buy it!)

Call me silly, but I really liked the "no replies" policy we had for a short time!

    I agree with Hack here...

I kinda like no replies except from the original poster. But before, wasn't it no replies at all???

It might have been, but the original poster could edit the ad, anyway...like adding pics or info, or putting "SOLD" in the subject line.

(I never tried, but I thought the original poster could add a reply too??)

That was cool, especially when they'd add the "SOLD" tag, that way you could just keep on browsing and look for something else! It saves time and made the classifieds more user-friendly under the "no replies" policy, I thought.

Just a crazy suggestion for the moderators here...start a poll and see what people prefer?

    Choices like:

    * No replies, but original poster can edit ad or subject line.

    * Replies allowed, but no BTTT, bashing or "Wish I was closer" replies.

    * Anything goes...turn it back into another free-for-all discussion forum!

It seems like choice #2 means more work for the mods, constantly patroling the ads to keep things in check and delete inappropriate responses.

Option #3 would lead us back to when threads could reach six pages of complete chaos in the CLASSIFIEDS!

But that's just my thinking on it. (I like option #1 obviously!:D )

dunno.... I'm on the fence here.

No replies helps the mods out... lotsa work those fellas do for free.

But with no replies, it was stale... boring...

But maybe thats what the classifieds needs to be???

I think it was already polled and what we have now is what they came up with to work the best???

I'm not good at math so trying to figure out what date the original post was made... then adding 3 would just fuck up my entire day... :D

  12. I thought "no replys" was a good thing also. If a seller is too busy to check his pm's, maybe he's too busy to sell stuff. Being able to check the ads in just a short period of time was great.

  13. i am an admin on a friend's board/car club and I did the no replies thing for awhile because people posted bullshit in others' for sale ads.. then people were too dumb to PM so i turned it back on.

I don't see a problem with BTTT as long as you can only do so many.. like a For Sale ad with 10 replies all with BTTT is kinda dumb.. obviously no one wants it by that time.

The way it is works pretty well now.
If a few ads get deleted for excess BTTT ,that would soon shape up the offenders.
If You were to shut off their ability to post for a few days , the people who can't resist making comments about " wish I was closer" or some such dumb remark would soon learn to curb their typing finger .

I appreciate all the dialog guys and what we have now is actually bits and pieces of all the comments that have been sent to the Moderators and Ryan, so actually you are getting the better in all comments.

5 simple things to keep as the foundation for the classifieds as I posted in
    my "Re-read" this post.

    1. 1964 and older only ( Odd ball stuff by permission from the moderators)
    2. Ebay link ( it gets deleted) mention on Ebay ( it gets closed)
    3. No Price (deleted) all items have to have a price(including want to trade)
    4. Excessive BTTT ( Forget = delete) 3 Day Wait for BTTT is fair.
    5. Buddies dribbling O/T stuff " Wish it were" "Wish I had $" with no intention
to buy. PM him if you think his car is nice, all it does is open more O/T
    comments.

If you guys just remember those 5 things, then all should be fine.
As far as waiting 3 days for BTTT, your posted date is the very top of your reply so there should be no guess work as when you posted.

You can ad more pics to your ad at anytime to help sell your car.
If you want to change your price, you can do that too.
You can answer any questions a perspective buyer might have at any time.

    Simple.

    Again thanks for the dialog.

My 2 cents, a btt after a 2 or 3 days. People WILL go through the ads beyond page 1. Replys,Leave them on because it may add clarification from members. But replys only put it to the top after the same period. That way there is no forum hogging and everyone gets their chance at page 1. there must be a way to program a post to go back to the top after a certain amount of time.

  18. I think Cob is doing a good job on this. I don't need someone to BTTT a post for me, all the new posts since I last logged on are in bold font anyway. It seems like a waste of time to check the post again for a BTTT. I was wondering if when single item posts are sold can they just be deleted?

Yep... This one has been hashed out too many times already... The classifieds are set man... They aren't changing anytime soon.
