Folks I'm in the process of building watts linkage for my closed cab 30 A pickup. The picture is from Hot Rod magazine. What I need help with is a double stud bolt. See picture. It needs to be 3/8 16 by 1"each/ side. I want to use these so I can remove linkage without upsetting my pinion gear. What's it called and please point me in the direction where to find them. I need 5 each. Thank You for your help. Mc master Carr does not have them.
I have always bought that type of a stud from Dorman and have never known the real name of them. I don't know who carries Dorman products these days, you may try the local autoparts.
When all else fails, screw a longer studs in, run a nut down to retain the pinion support, put your bracket on then nuts to hold it in place. Sent from my Moto G Play using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
And I've seen those studs used on things like Chevy intake manifolds, power steering pumps, etc. I think there's a hardware vendor that sells specialized parts like that for GMs. But I forget who it is...
I think what you really want is a shoulder bolt.... https://www.boltdepot.com/Shoulder_bolts.aspx?nv=l Most bolt vendors should have these in various sizes.
My first thought too Jim. Also used on water pump for ground cable attachment and thermostats too. Many of the repop restoration suppliers have them. Classic Industries comes to mind. Quick image search here. https://www.google.com/search?q=cla...rL7VAhVPyGMKHTMiAUQQ_AUIEigC&biw=1280&bih=752
Dorman 3405 kits show studs with threads at least one inch long. https://www.google.com/search?biw=1...gws-img..4.5.919...30i10k1j0i24k1.jn7IEOSUwjc
DD I just emailed a picture to Dorman I've got my fingers crossed. Ideal they need to be 3/8 16 X 1 by 3/8 16 X 1
thinking about this some more... I would use long bolts, or studs with NO nut between the bracket and the pinion support. It will be stronger. And I still don't understand how it might mess up the pinion setting?
I did not say it would mess up I just don't want to mess up. If I need to remove my set up I did not want to pull the 3rd member. Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
you can remove the five bolts, and even the pinion support with the pinion gear, without messing up the setup. you want to keep track of the shim(s) if you do remove it
You can make it with all thread rod, run a nut almost to the middle, apply permenant loc-tite to the threads at the middle and run the nut over the loc-tite, let loc-tite set, install with split lock washer to the pumpkin. Then install bracket and second lock washer an final nut. Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

Jim, That's the closest thing yet. Thank you all for your time and input. I think I'll get some 2.5" allen set screws I'm told they're grade 8. This will give me a means to thread them in and hold it while tightening the nut. Again thanks all. Terrt aka dirt t Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
