Has anyone put together a list of what will fit into where?? I would like to put a pair of buckets in my 50 Dodge Wayfarer and have not had good luck looking locally. I can remember way back when Hot Rod was a little book (long time ago) they had a list but I haven't been able to find anything like that now. Any ideas?? Thanks.
Ya just hafta be creative, 59 to 65 low back and chunky GM buckets seem to work pretty good in older stuff but you hafta be a little more savy if your lookin for something from a later model with decent upholstery etc. Dont use high backs or head rest, also anything you use is gonna take a little fab work Last ones I tried to scavenge up for cheap, I just took a walk through the junk yard and saw several candidates that I could have taken the head rest off of and made look presentable but settled on a set out of a nissan extended cab pickup that would fold forward for rear access.

What's the difference if it's a 4 dr? they are bucket seats!!! The backrest still tilts forward to acess the back seat
Check out Bestop Jeep seats. Price is right and there are half a dozen color/material choices. You can get seat bases that tilt for back seat access
I did not realize my bucket seats came from a 4 door cavalier until after installed and had my WTF moment when seat would not tilt forward. Not a huge issue in pickup but BIG issue in car. Take a look at aftermarket volkswagon bug seats. They are smaller and no head rests. Took my centre console out of '98 Olds 88
Funny thing about seats: When you don't need them, they're everywhere. Swap meets, garage sales, the pile of crap your neighbor is taking to the dump. But when you need them, they're half way across the country for $$$.
Why not from a Conversion Van like a Dodge or what ever you can Find, they Swivel and Tilt forward. Just my 3.5 cents Live Learn & Die a Fool
That's one of the next things I need to figure out also. Which seats to look for, for my 31 tudor. Gotta tilt forward as I want to keep a back seat in it. Be nice to find a seat that swiveled too. As stated above when you already have a set you run into them cheap everywhere but when needed can't find em.
Located a set of Chrysler Sebring convertible seats that will get put into the '40 Coupe. IIRC, they're from a 2000 model. They are not all that bulky, so there's room for a (narrow) center console if need be. What's neat about them is that the seat belt is integral (no need to tie into the B pillar), they're powered, and tilt forward. If you opt to get them, make sure the control module is with them. I have a doc. describing how to install them and the wiring diagram. gatz
when you guys say 'tilt forward' please clarify. almost all the 'tilt forward ' buckets that i've seen and/or experienced DONT tilt anything beyond 30 degrees forward. it would be nice IF the back would tilt forward a true flat angle. as it is almost all passenger cars seem to have bucket seats now. when was the last time you saw a real front bench seat? ( my 1999 cheap toyota tacoma had one.)
"Tilt forward" at least my needs, flip level and back of seat falls forward to allow access to the rear seat, 60`s 70`s style etc.
I doubt that the Sebring seats would lay "flat". These are made to allow back-seat entry with the top up; even tho' it may be a bit cramped. Angle limit? IDK I haven't had them down from a rack where they're stored to see how much they'd tilt. I can take a look tomorrow if you'd like. I see there are many available online; maybe one of the sellers would be able to furnish that info.
IF the bucket seats are next or allmost next to each other... then it is good. IF seperated by a console... NO BUENO. at that point a bench seat is prefered. imho.
Yeah, tough one. Gotta find just the right buckets for these cars - otherwise it's bench. Mustang or early Beetle may work or I've seen it suggested corvair? I've got some 64 chevelle buckets. I just don't think they'd look good- too late. Then again some folks are all about iroc seats.. awful, horrible iroc / camaro seats. Or some ricer bullshit Honda Toyota whatever. Please don't. The GM Strato Buckets fold flat like a clam. However, slightly newer than what most would want. Heavy, too. The earlier style would probably fit in your car as well.
70's Dodge van..motor home buckets are tapered and fit the early bodies nice...these NOS Red ones are in a '41 Ford
Mustang Buckets'! I use that *** on everything. Studebaker, 39&54, 32 3 window for a while, just put a pair in a model A. They have a narrow profile, flat and readily replaceable adjusters, and in larger US cars, leave room for shifter, console etc. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
My favorite go to bucket is early Bronco. Style wise they look like early Mustang but they are a little bigger, seem to fit the bigger (post 35) cars better. Personally I hate most modern buckets in old cars, too narrow, especially when you have a big gap between the seat and the door once you center the seat to the steering wheel. The early Bronco seats haven't been that hard to come up with, lot of Bronco guys are upgrading to more "race" style seats .
Well I can't remember the year; 70's or 80's Honda Accord..I think! Extremely comfortable seats..Backs fold forward and recline for back adjustment...
