Been working hard on the car. Finally mounted the air ride components properly, mounted the seat, installed the rear gl***, made plexigl*** templates for the windshield, got the skirts, and one dummy spot on (not so sure if im into the spots on the car as I thaught I would be). What do you guys think, spots, or no spots? A buddy is coming down from VA soon to pinstripe the scallops in white.

Looks great! You gotta have spots! And ditch the trunk handle, move the plate down, and move the taillights down ;)

Chad, Keep the spots - they make it look old school. Also, agree to loose trunk handle and move license plate. Looks real good !

Working on shaving the trunk handle. Before I had the top chopped, I had solenoids in the doors, but now that theres no gl*** in the doors yet, opening the doors is no issue. As for the trunk, I looked into using a bear claw latch, but I'm convinced I can find a better solution that will mount easier for a trunk. If there are any aftermarket latch kits (I dont need a solenoid, a cable is fine for me) out there, I havent found it yet, a latch from a late model may be another solution. All I know is that the stock ford latch is very very stiff, and making it work reliably from the inside is asking for a lot of trouble (plus mine is really screwed up, you cannot slam the trunk shut, you have to open the latch when opening it, AND closing it).

Go to the junkyard and get a power tunk lock out of a later model GM car (Cad, Olds, Buick). That way all you have to do is gently close the trunk so it catches on the latch and the power solonoid will draw it down tight. Be sure to get the whole ***embly with the striker from the trunk lid. Take note how it is installed in the doner and duplicate that in your car and your good to go.

nice car, but loose the spots and put real ones on there. Looks alot better IMHO.

    The colors are cool.

I would agree, take off the trunk handle, lower the tailights (or remove them and put them in the rear bumper gaurds.)

    Sweet ride...

Keep the spots..remove trunk trim, french license plate, move down, or modify taillights...definitely got the "kustom" flavor...scallops are fine.

You did a beautiful job on the scallops. I love the gold flake wheels. I agree with the others on shaving the trunk. The spots look right on this car, I'd do it. Great looking car! Are you sure about white for outlining?

I'll keep the cheap dummy spots untill I can get a set of real appletons. Carlisle is at the end of this week, well see what turns up there. The next plans are to shave the trunk handle and move the plate down as suggested. I am going to put 49-50 ford taillights on, I have an idea in my head that should look great.
Hardway, I am pretty set on white outlining, but what do you have in mind?

I would trade the spots for a set of peep mirrors. My '53 has spotlights on it now that I put on there when I was 16 and in the next re-do they're coming off.

Just personal taste, but if it was my decision to make I think I'd look at some shade of green for outline. I think it would be a smoother transition from the gold to the black. Again, that's just personal opinion and I'm sure white will look just fine.

Beautiful car!! I like the spots, but If you're not sure I'd hold off until you get everything else on there you want. Then see how they look.

I agree with shaving the trunk. I have an Autoloc popper on my trunk, it doesn't work right, and when I went down to Autoloc, all they wanted to do was sell me a different one instead of helping me with what I already bought.

After about 4 weeks of sanding bondo and primer, I had to empty and hose down the whole garage. It feels so nice working in a clean, uncluttered garage, dont wanna ever go back to a mess again.

    Man, that looks great, Chad!

As far as the striping renderings, white looks good, sorta' monchromatic & subtle. The darker green is more heavy duty & the red is over the top (All in a good way)

I'd have a hard time making a choice. I guess it all depends on the overall vibe you want.

builtbyme, thanks for the photoshop work. That all definately confimrs that white is what I am going for. The green and red are cool, just different than the direction I am heading. The interior will be white and gold vinyl.

Steve, thanks, your compliments mean a lot. By the way, Bill Stillwagon is doing the pinstriping.

    Hi Chad,

Looks really good with the skirts, totally different at***ude... one I like a lot.
As for the spotlights... loose the dummy once, and find a pair of real appleton S-112. They will look so much better... and yes your car needs them. Also find a set of nice hubcaps to go on the front wheels. Sombrero's or single bar flippers, or perhaps even som Fiesta hubcaps to go with the scallops same time...

    Great work.
