I am putting a floor shift and need to remove the column shift linkage.
I cannot get the shift lever out nor can I get the shift column loose from the top housing.
    How does the top detach?
The column is out. The tube around the steering column rod is off. The bottom of the shift linkage has been removed.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

I wish there was an easier way but no dice, some cars had a drift pin you could drive out and remove the lever, mine didn't.

That pic is great but it covers the column and very helpful, but, I need to get the ship linkage rod and lever off of the column.

Sorry I'm not familiar with the linkages in the column. I've never had one apart. I thought maybe an exploded view might have shown you something.

I think if you take off 7318 and 7319 in picture Rui posted it should come off if I understand what you are attempting to do.

The bottom is all off. that worked. How to get 7209, 7210, 7246, off the top pin is the problem.
Rui, Where did you find the exploded view of the steering column and linkage?

I took a couple of photos from my shop manual where it has two pages about the shifter.
Maybe it might help? There's one similar to Rui's. IMG_0485.JPG IMG_0484.JPG

I got the linkage out. Did not destroy anything.
Thank you all for your help with this problem.
    I do so appreciate it.

I took the entire shift tube, brackets, shift levers, ect. out and found a length of ( I believe) 1/2 in. elect. tubing, painted it black and it fit right in place of the old tube. Paul Selfe.

Good idea. Fills up the hole left by the linkage. Very clever.

The steering box end comes out fairly easy, just a couple of clips & bolts... The top end at the steering wheel needs to have the drift pin pounded out.
My entire column & box are out of the wagon. I do not know if the shift linkage will come out while still in the car.
Once the pin is out, the shift lever needs to come out. Mine was very stuck. I used my own rust penetrant ( 50% acetone & 50% ATF ) I spun the lever many times to get the penetrant down in the socket. Once there, pulled hard and the lever came out. Once that is out, the rest of the shift tube slips off the top end. Per Rui's drawing, the parts are 305080 s, & 7210. get them out and that's it.
