I'm going to swap out my turn/brake light bulbs for LED'S. Would it be better to get a new flasher or just put a resistor inline? Has anyone done this yet?
If your existing flasher is the normal older type, it'll need to be changed for a electronic type. Reason is, the normal unit requires a bit of current flowing through it, via the resistance of the light globes to heat & bend the bimetal strip inside it. LEDs draw very little current, not enough to work the bimetal strip. So get yourself an electronic unit. The other good thing about an electronic flasher is that it will still flash at a normal rate no matter if any of the globes or leds are blown. You'll need to add a third (an earth) wire to make it work. They should have three pins on them. (Rarely some might have 4- one to drive a common pilot light. You won't connect anything to that pin) The original units just connect in series with the lights. So will this one, but it'll also need that earth. If you have trouble get back to me.... Either on here or pm me Cheers Mick
