My Friend has a 52 Merc with a 302 going together.
The car has the original gauges, which are 6 volt
What needs to be done to use the gauges with the
    newer 302?
    Thanks for all the help

Get a CVR (Cluster Voltage Regulator) for just about any Ford product from 1957 through at least the sixties. Only one is needed for all gauges except the ammeter. Wire it in at the cluster. Most auto parts stores have 'em or can get 'em. It regulates the voltage to an average of 5 to 7 volts by rapidly opening and closing a set of internal contacts.

    Pretty cheap!
I was going to make a little electronic voltage reducer using a little component called a LM 317, which can be set (using a couple of little resistors & a filter capacitor) to take a varying (within reason) input voltage, in our case 12 - 14 volts and to put out a steady voltage of 6volts.

The components cost about the price of a coffee, from an electronics shop (Tandy don't exist here anymore, but we have a mob called Jaycar which are good). I must sit down and draw up a little circuit & diagram sometime & stick it up on the forum. In fact, I know others have done that, but I can't remember if it's on the HAMB or some other forum..... Just goes to show I spend too much time on forums and not enough time in the shed!!
