I see they drove with the windows up and top down back then too,to me there is no sense in having the top down with the windows up. When the top is down on my sunliner the windows are down.

I tend to agree. I have owned and driven a lot of convertibles over the years and don't care for the look with the windows up. However, depending on weather conditions, how many and the nature of the women passengers one has aboard, concessions are often needed. Women have less concern about what looks cool to us, than they do for how their hair, etc. look when they arrive. You have to be flexible often if your wife, girlfriends, or daughters/granddaughters are going to ride with you :)

The top went down on May 1st and stayed down until September 30th every year on my dads 55' Mountain Green Sunliner until late 63 when he past away... I should have kept that one.

    Nice photos, Loudbang
A few corrections needed on titles
The GT40 is a Mkl 289, the Mkll appeared in 1966 when the McLaren/Amon version won Le Mans
The Cobra at the front is the "Flip Top" Cobra CSX 2196 developed by Ken Miles, there are at least three 427s in the background

Hotrd32 beat me to it! My thoughts exactly when I first looked at that picture. Judging from the cars I'd say "Class of 55" let's see hmm, I was in 1st grade then. When I went to HS we had plane's parked in our school yard. I went to Aviation HS in LI City NY.

    Hello,
Here is the photo as shown in the previous, surf transportation thread:
    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/vintage-surf-transportation.326942/page-5#post-12173276

This particular photo shows Kathy Kohner Zuckerman, the real life "Gidget" as portrayed in the classic 60's movie, Gidget. The movie shows what her life was as a teenager growing up surfing in Malibu and the surrounding areas.

The photo was taken on Pacific Coast Highway, right in front of the world famous, Surfrider Beach at Malibu Point. That particular parking space was coveted as you could sit in your car parked on Coast Highway and watch the waves roll in during the summer.

But, during the summer swell months, those parking spots filled up by 6 am. We would make the 2 hour drive from our house in Long Beach at 3 am and arrive just as the sky was starting to get light. Sometimes we were the only ones there and other times, the parking spaces along the highway were starting to fill up fast.

    Jnaki
The car was a 49 Buick convertible, typical of a So Cal girl you see driving around in such a car, except that this girl could actually surf.

Her name is Kathy Kohner, the real life "Gidget", on which the original movie was based.

Although it's been awhile, I've talked to her many times. She worked at "Duke's", a restaurant near the Malibu Pier as a part time manager. The photo above has been cropped, it was from Life Magazine.
