Been looking for a good/reasonable source of steel here in Houston. Most of the guys I've found have been a little too large scale for me. Oil and gas uses some wicked size material..... There was one shop where they considered plate steel from 4"-12" thick... a little too heavy duty for me!!!! Any tips? Looking for rectangle tubing, round tubing, angle, flat-bar, etc..... good variety... thanks
not sure where you are in Houston but if you are willing to travel Acron Steel here in Beaumont is reasonable hand has most of what you are looking for. Im pretty sure you'll find what you need in Houston but if not try Bill Ladd at Acron steel... http://www.acornsteel.com/
I've know a steel yard in Lumberton Texas (just north of Beaumont) that the owners are hot rodders and have a few drag cars. They order me steel when i need it , and it comes in with there order so i get out of shipping. there real good guys. ive been helping one of them with his 49 chevy truck and his vega drag car.
Tried calling a few of the s**** dealers around town. They didn't seem to accomodating. Not sure if there's a liability issue or something. It would rock to find some sort of crazy old s**** collector to find some cool treasures along the way!!!
Steel Supply about 5 miles south of Hobby Airport on Telephone Road almost to belt way 8...sells used and new..nice guys
I use both Steel Supply down on Telephone Rd, as well as Triple S up off Kelly & 59 I think. Steel Supply is by far the best IMO. Triple S is more for bulk orders and orders take an eternity to fill comparitively. For s**** odds and ends I like to root around at Rose Steel. They used to be off Sawyer/Taylor, but moved up 290 a lil. Great odds and ends there, fittings, aluminum, stainless, vessel heads, casters, electric motors.
