I'm curious....how can you tell the heads have open or closed chambers from that picture?

 

See the two accessories threaded mount holes , closed chamber heads have one threaded mount hole. Old guys call them humps

 

the extra hole was added in 1969 when they went to the long water pump, eh? not quite a sure fire way of telling which is which, but pretty good for most cases. The L88 heads I have on my 427 are open chamber and only have one boss. The rest of the heads I have do fit the pattern, though.
