Hey All, I have been on the fence about this car for awhile. Tried to sell it, for many reason haven't been able to.....wonder if someone is trying to tell me to keep it. Anyways, it's got a 3.8 in if for the previous owner, that never finished it. I'm going to start to tackle this car over the winter, get the interior in it, and work my way to the engine bay. My question is, how far differ is the 3.8 for say wanting to at some point put a 5.0 in it. It's a painless wiring harness. Are motor mounts close? Do the trans bolt up from one to the other? I just wondering how much work I will have to redo when I go to put the 5.0 in it. Thanks , Kory
Click on this: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/faq-sticky.897329/page-4 Go to post # 100 you will see 4 pictures of a 5.0 and AOD install in a '53 Ford using this kit: http://www.butchscoolstuff.com/52-53-ford-car-15-sb-ford-engine-transmission-mount-kit-2501cpb/ The earlier 3.8's prior to 1999 were plagued with head gasket issues, any idea what year yours is ? Another big issue is the computer wiring from the 3.8 to the 5.0. If you used a 5.0 and a 1989-93 AOD transmission things get easier. First the AOD will sit right on the 1952-53 transmission cross member (see picture) also the 1989-93 AOD is non-computer.
I used butches cool stuff for the 5.0 HO EFI and had to fabricate the T5 mount. The 80s Mustang harness was a mess. The engine started right up using a Ford Performance harness. The rest of the car is WIP but I'm seeing the light (sometimes).
