Try doing this now-a-days. Ticket (one each) for no-seat-belts-on-passengers, if any are minors, then endangering a minor, in general, reckless endangerment (one count per person) and so on.

    Hello,
57 years ago, this silver bodied rear engine sidewinder race car made its debut at Lions Dragstrip in Long Beach, CA. It was so strange (as were many of the builds back then) that it needed a vintage thread post. Is this unusual race car still around somewhere?

A modified version of a rear engine SBC/auto trans powered sidewinder from Stu's Transmission Shop in Long Beach back in 1960. (a modified automatic transmission in a race car?) Would you expect anything else from a transmission shop? The shop was extremely popular for all transmission service and installations back then, including the local hot rod racers and cruisers.

Stu's was a few blocks up the street from the famed, "Cherry Ave. Drags" location.

Not really for sure of the venue but the background looks kinda like Reno ? The car is Bart Martins Kellison body/ TR-2 chassis/SBC mod. Pretty hot car for a couple of years on the west coast back in the 60s. It's been (imo, over) restored and runs a lot of the west coast vintage events these days.
