Yeah just 2 but no dry rot and the tread looks like new.

  6. That all depends on the person getting them. 7.00 15 is a common size so that's good. that measn more people would want them. but at the end of they day they are used tires. some people just wont trust them no matter what. I just got a set of 7.00 16 used and in the same shape as those, gum dipped Firestone Deluxe Champions. I traded parts for them, but I would have sold the parts for about $250 bucks. That being said, I wont pay more that $100 bucks a piece for a used tire like that, but that's just me. I would think you should be able to get $200 to $250 out of them.

The DOT code would tell you when they were made. Unless they were made before 1971.
Before 71 everybody had their own date code system. It was not very easily read at the time.
Possibly manufacturers did not want the consumer to easily read them, or maybe nobody really cared at the time.

each manufacturer had their own system to date tires until finally the U.S.
government mandated a universal system for everyone to use starting in 1971.

After 5 years tires lose half their strength and should not be trusted. They may be ok for a car that sits in a museum but not in traffic.

  10. When I was a kid I bought used tires (bias ply) all the time and never had any problems. Wouldn't trust them now though.

They're old tires, I don't think it matters exactly how old.
On my off topic pickup, three of the tires are originals from 1989.
One of my Fairlanes has bias ply retreads.

They seem to work okay, but I don't drive over 60 with them.

Obviously the condition of the tires will depend on how they were stored. Those Gum Dipped tires look very good, if they had been stored in the hot sun for decades they would no doubt be severely cracked and weathered.

  12. Are you sure they are old, Coker has been selling 700-15 Firestone Wide whites for quite some time.
They look just like the old Firestone's right down to the gum-dipped logo
By the way the Cokers sell for about $225.00 each.

IMG_0096.JPG Took a good look at the back sidewalks for any date code and looks like it was taken off. Both tires look like this.

So was "gum dipped" and actual process, if so, what was the process?

Or was it a catch phrase?
