Nice and warm at the show $10.00 beers helped cool me off. $25.00 T shirts available. Forced to stay at show till 5:00 as gates were locked to drive out. I think that is against the law here in Ca.. Otherwise good show.

The gates were locked and you couldn't leave? I have never heard of such a thing.

Several people had to argue with an official about unlocking the gate, he was being an @#$ %^&* about it. Finally let several cars out.

Now they have 'officials' in Ventura???:D
Actually, that's false imprisonment. Look it up.
At $10 a beer, locked gates guarantee a 'captive audience'!

I haven't gone in a couple of years, but always thought the promoter went out of their way to have a nice show. The heat here lately may have contributed, people not wanting to watch the gate for the sneak in people or just plain not wanting to stand in the sun

I used to live in Ventura. My two kids were born there at County Hospital. Got too expensive and had to boogie out of town to Seattle. The Primer Nats are where it's at. Miss those days. Hit Johnnies Tacos on the way home!!!

  16. Looks like there was hardly even anyone there by your pics. Was going to load the A up and drag it down there from up here in the desert, but things happened and was not able to make it. I always have a great time at that show. Sorry I missed it this year.

I saw Roger O'Dell's comment about no one wanting to stand a watch for anyone sneaking in. Made me think about my first time this year to attend the Frog Follies in Evansville In. The first event that I have attended where you drive into the event to register. As far as I could tell there was no enforcement of being registered. Trusting people to be honest, what a concept.

He must have taken those photos early on. I got there about 12:30, and I'd say the show was definitely bigger then last year, in cars and attendance.

Drove my 32 pickup to the event and was stopped at the gate so the sheriffs to look in my Trunk (which holds my Batt & some tools) for why? Stated to leave around 2:30 all the gates were locked. Why? Will think twice about going next year.

Thanks for the pics. As to "locking the gates", the missus and I ran into that a few years ago here in "Live Free or Die" NH at local show. She wanted to leave, didn't feel well and the moron at the gate said "no one leaves until trophies are given out at 3pm". He soon got the message I was leaving over his mangled body if he didn't take down the rope. Thats why I like smaller impromptu shows, come and go when you like.

i went .it was fun .saw some friends.the hop up room was cool.people trying to buy my car all day

  22. Yup the gates were lock, the Security seems to think they we top brass. I even saw cops coming into to roam, or maybe just check out the show.
We brought our vintage bikes and had to ride in and out the front gate to get lunch someplace else, but as we were out in the Downtown area we saw many cars that were within the show cruising the city already.
That said, maybe a good reason to carry some bolt cutters in the trunk now.

Odd they check your cool but nothing else, there are many places to hide a 6 pack. Either way this search is NOT done for the safety of anyone, it was for the Sponsor to sell the beer. But I don't drink at these shows (cars and & liquor don't mix well) or in the morning like an alcoholic, but to each their own.

I have not been to the show in a few years, overall it seems the same size and 4 years ago??

Same crowds. The high end inside "Suede Palace-like" Hop up area was nice.
The vendor areas kind sad looking. It seems that 805 Brewery is the one that needed the trunk check enforcing "No outside liquor" Coz they sponsored the beer and program.

There were many cool cars and hotrods, different from most LA shows. Good different types of vehicles, a lot lowriders, many Chevy trucks and such. From Classy to Meh. Not a whole lot of WTF type RR vehicles, maybe they just mixed in or grew up.
This show still needs more shade. It was at least 10 degrees cooler at the beach 1 block away.

Thanks for adding photos to this thread. It was a good show and promoters need to be thanked for doing it. I realize that the whole purpose of promoting a show is to make money and respect that but they need to fine tune their rules.

Thanks Hollywood Graham for posting these pics. I was chained inside my vending booth selling my art and missed seeing a great show. Those involved promoting and sponsoring this show do it with creativity, enthusiasm, integrity and generosity. It's one of my favorite shows because of them. About the locked gates - To encourage more shopping, all us vendors got together and offered free swag to the private gate guard to lock the gate so everyone would stay and shop. I heard he refused but apparently after reading these posts he must have changed his mind. That explains our great sales but since there were complaints we vendors promise to never do that again. ;)

To the OP, first off, thanks for posting pics, and this isn't an attack on you, just my opinion.

Unless I was dying, I wouldn't of mind being locked in at VC fairgrounds till 5PM, surrounded by customs, hot rods, great weather and some like minded people vs. where I was, in 105+ DEG. heat, breathing tons of ash, haven't been able to see blue sky for almost a month, I could keep going.
I just don't get it, some guys look forward to a show all year which you only get to spend a day at, I would make the most of it! When I go to a show or any event for that matter, I make sure I leave the whole day free. Just a few years ago, there was a threat of this show not happening at all, so I rather deal with it vs. not have it at all, even though, like most shows (this included) I do prefer how it was in the early days of this show (Primer Nats),when you had a better economy, price of everything was more affordable, stricter entry rules, etc.
These days however, you can't be as picky with shows, especially in more populated areas of California. Ok, rant over.

  28. Sorry man, but that "locking" people in to help promote sales is ridiculous. If I were there and got a call from home indicating an emergency of some sort and wasn't allowed back out the gate, there would be hell to pay by someone.

It worked out OK lothiandon1940, In the case of emergencies the guard was instructed to open the gate IF the person could show they bought something from a vendor. But we vendors are a fair bunch so we offered a 10% "in case of emergency" discount. It really was a win-win situation all the way around. The promoters may not allow us to ever do that again but we thought it was a heck of an idea.
