wanting to know where to stay [or not to stay ]for this event next year. looks like a lot of motels are already booked. for the weekend. thanks
We always stayed at the Drury Inn that was next to JoJo's, but we were on a waiting list for 2 years before we got a smoking room, and then another year before we got a non-smoking room. Just find a quality motel, and see if you can get on their waiting list, and ask if they can let you know if there are any cancellations. One of the 1st years we went we stayed 50 miles away, because that was the closest there was. Good luck it is one of the best Rod Runs I've ever been to in my life. The whole community turns out to help. Food is priced reasonable, and you can't beat what you get for your $15.00 entry fee. A t-shirt, a louvered dash plaque, some type of collector's edition car or other item. (I still have my wash bucket from over 10 years ago.) Supper, a dance, and coffee & donuts on Sunday morning, plus prizes at the end of the show. My collection of F.F. T-shirts are prized by me and when ever I wear one I always get comments on how cute, or funny it is. Thom Taylor does the drawings for them.
Best run we attend and would not miss it. That being said the only downer of the event is the independent at***ude of the hotels in the area. Rates have gone up significantly over the years requiring first night paid in full at time of reservation (we register one year in advance) and an unreasonable cancelation policy of full payment if not cancelled three months in advance. But we tolerate it because the event is so great. Good luck.
I went a couple years ago and stayed in Jasper In. at a Holiday inn which is about 60 miles away. Nice drive in the morning. Really enjoyed the show, to bad their aren't more rooms available closer to the show.
I have found that booking through a hotel chain website can save some problems. The big one is arriving at a hotel with reservations made by Expedia, or other third party group, and finding that the hotel never heard of you. I also will check with the hotel a month or so out to see if something has happened to the reservation. That way they have a month to fix it if necessary.
airbnb might be an answer here's the link https://www.airbnb.com/s/Evansville...ords=airbnb'&allow_override[]=&s_tag=0CZq75Fj
I met a guy that camps in his teardrop right on the show ground, they don't kick you out at night. I stay about 50 miles away in a chain motel that doesn't raise the rates for that weekend. I certainly can afford the drive for the difference in nightly rates. If you have a trailer queen, might not work for you.
A group of us have been staying at the Super 8 for the last 12-15 years. Clean, modern and close to the show. It's on Elipers Road, just off I-64 and State 41. There is also a Red Roof, a Quality and a Holiday Express there. We have been paying $115 for a two bed non-smoking. Next year will be $118. We book next year when we leave but generally there are a few rooms available if you call early. A friend has been staying at the Holiday Inn at the Airport but this year the rate was close to $200 a night.
Frog Follies is on the east side of Evansville. There are hotels over on the west side, too. Easy drive across town on The Lloyd, and you're there. Went last year. Good show. Way too hot for SWMBO, but I don't mind heat. Went on Power Tour this year. Would like to go again some day, but probably won't be able to next year due to another thing that came up. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
I've been staying at Drury now Comfort Inn for 30 years. Always reserve a room for the next year while I'm there. Your best bet is to start calling hotels now and get on their waiting lists. Rooms will become available closer to time for the Follies. The rooms won't be cheap either but if you want to play you got to pay. The room deal has been going on for decades, but it's the best rod run there is. When you do get a room better lock in on it or you'll be fighting the same battle again.
