Just wondering if a 1941 Ford Pickup ch***is can be swapped with a 1939 ch***is? I know there are minor year changes in the x member over the years but is the overall fit the same? Thanks! Bob
Yeah, mostly. The pickup frame is one gauge thicker. The pickup frame doesnt have the body mounts the cars need.
If you're using a FH engine be careful of the front crossmember; if you're using an OHV then it's not important. The mounting pads on the crossmember need to be about equal to maybe 1/16" above the top of the side frame rail for the FH. Some earlier frames had these pads about 1/2" below the side frame rail, which is great for sbc with mech. fuel pump. My 41 p/u was a 6 cyl truck and when they installed the 8ba, they used the second crossmember and my engine sits downhill in the ch***is.
Are you going to use a car nose on a truck cab? If so that's awesome and will look cool. I started a thread on that idea a while back where a bunch of pictures of different trucks done that way were posted.
NashRodMan, If this was the photo you posted then you are the one that got me started. Only difference will be the '38 Deluxe hood sides. Bob
37kid, Here, www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/lets-start-a-thread-for-trucks-with-car-noses-on-them.994811 is the link to the thread. There's a ton of pictures and some of the guys gave some good info on how to do them.
39 and up frames are the ones I use!! They have the correct mounts in the x member for juice brakes and car frames have the mounting boxes on the outside of the frame.. makes them easy to spot!! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
