I currently race a 91 Mustang. Really wanting to build something different. Playing around with the idea of buying a fibergl*** 32 ford 5 window coupe and turning it into a mid to low 5 second 1/8th mile street/strip car. My mustang runs 5.70's at 126 and weighs 3200lbs. I know a fibergl*** coupe would probably weight about 1000 lbs less. Has anybody built a car like this, would it be safe? Any pics or info?
Local friend has a gl*** roadster '32, henry frame, sbc. .030 alum panels for interior, fenderless and it weighs 2500#. So a coupe might be a bit heavier with the wood, and top material.
I have seen this done I seem to remember a 3 or 5 window on the hot rod power tour about 5 years back what you have to remember is , with lower weight and a different weight distribution you will be in an entirely new ch***is tuning game. this said if you are going for the traditional fenderless lookor full fendered early g***er you will have what should be a verv interesting and fun package meet me over in conversations and I will try to give you any help I can
The easiest way to do this is buy an already certified Altered with ladder bar rear suspension and d**** a fibregl*** coupe body over it. Then alter the length of the ladder bars to get the rear wheels correct to the rear arches. A bit of frame work would be required to get the front-end correct to the grille, but it would be a lot easier than a ground up build. If you want the deuce rail look ,use fibregl*** ones as trim pieces or make ******** ones from alloy sheetmetal.
The baddest car around spokane is jade Clair's fibergl*** 32, 3 window. It's an honest to goodness street car and he has clicked off a high 8 second quarter mile time.
There are videos of it on YouTube, when it ran 9.50. Now it is caged, the motor makes just under 1100 hp, but it looks the same as it did then. Look up night stalker 32 ford, or tunetech 32 ford.
Jade had a nasty crash last night and put his '32 into the wall during a grudge match at the Dukes drags. The car is really messed up but most importantly, he is ok.
Why don't you buy my Chris Alston tube frame Ford Fairmont and I can buy a 32 5 window?!?!?!? Works for me! SPark
A good tube ch***is and the body is along for the ride. Some place to hang your sponsor's name on. Build it to run without the body and then bolt the body on No stress on the body that way except from the high speeds you will be running.
Not a gl*** body but one heck of a drag build https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/34-3w-drag-car.1017478/
I don't know the guy's name--he is a firefighter locally and the PU is a new build with a wing on it. Also running in the 8's. Jade just got bad out of shape and couldn't gather it near the finish line.
