I'm planning on putting in a headliner in my car soon. Any recommendations on a supplier? I thought about having a custom one made until I priced it. WOW!
Just saw this and remembered your post, no clue about quality http://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-56-FOR...ash=item25c6bb1236:g:-p4AAOSw44BYCTY1&vxp=mtr
Thanks. I've gotten a few samples and so far I'm not too impressed. The napped cotton looks too modern for me. I can't find anyone so far that reproduces the original burlap style material.
What color is yours? I am going to Fall Carlisle and Hershey, I will be happy to look and let you know what sources I find.
I have Tex. All of them have the same material from what I have found so far. DSmoke thanks for the offer. It is a tan color. It's so old and stained up its hard to tell but I would say a medium to light medium tan. Just a shade or so lighter than a burlap bag and the same texture.
Longroof...........are you looking for fabric or vinyl? I'm guessing vinyl since you mentioned a burlap texture, as I've never seen a co**** fabric (like burlap) used on a headliner. Your "all of them have the same material .." statement has me wondering if you did a thorough search of the automotiveinteriors website. They don't have a ton of fabrics, but a boatload of vinyls (100's probably including a basketweave and a "Tier" that sound like your description. http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/headliner_colors/colors_vinyl_regular.htm http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/headliner_colors/colors_vinyl_special.htm jfyi. I used their synthetic fabric (Leige) for mine. I was surprised when another '57 fanatic told me it was very similar to what was oem. Almost has an old mohair look to it. I was highly satisfied with the fit of the kit.
I'm looking for a presewn, ready to install headliner. All of the vendors I've looked at only offer napped cotton or perferated vinyl. I can have one made that matches the original fabric for $1000. I was trying to get away from that. I'll post a couple pics of it. I looks and feels just like burlap. No way it's a vinyl with texture. I'm wondering if it isn't a special trim option as my car has the branding iron seat covers.
1k.......yikes!! I think I'd look really hard at the fabrics from the above or others since their presewn ready to install kits are 224. Was that 1,000 an installed price?......it IS a lot of work. Yeah, your ranch wagon's western theme could have had a different headliner than other wagons. That seat fabric was a cool option.
Yes that includes installation. I may just go ahead and do it. If you think about it the burlap actually fits in with the theme on the seats. I don't know how many cars had that interior but until I bought mine I'd never seen it before. It's just a bummer I can't find a reproduction
I did a little more digging and found a supplier that has the original style fabric. SMS has it. I can't believe I didn't think of them sooner. Got a email sent hopefully they will be able to help.
My sample from SMS came in. It is a spot on match. The material is called cotton weave. A presewn headliner is $325. Not too terrible in price.
For sure! I'm not sure how much it'll cost to have it installed but it should still be under the $1000 for a total.
Happy you found it! It would take me a week to install that (working with hands above my head is really tough for me).......I would guess a pro could do it in 10 hours or so, but @ today's labor rates it may get you pretty close to that 1k total I would think.
I'm not even going to attempt it. It would take me 2 months or more with the amount of free time I have. I have a lead on an installer that is supposed to be reasonable and perform great results.
