...The HAMB becoming this huge a part of modern day Car Culture? It seems you can mention HAMB at any event and people know what it is. Some are grossly misinformed but know of it. Kinda cool, actually.

The question is, has the HAMB become huge because of the giant growth of "Traditional" car culture and car style, or has "Traditional" Car Culture and car style grown because of the HAMB?

Columbus "discovered" America because he happened to get "lost" right where it was located...

  4. The HAMB brought me back to where I was almost thirty years ago.
My head started turning back about ten years ago when I started to plan a track roadster project. I really owe Denise a huge thanks for turning me on to the HAMB and RYAN for providing this awesome forum.

  5. I can remember a time when you could say "I read about this cool idea on the HAMB"....and people thought you were reading your sandwich meat!

I had no interest in Traditional Rods at all, until I started hanging out here. I can honestly say that I prefer "Traditional" over anything else now. I still don't much care for Sleds though...

  13. IT's amazing how many big named people that do actually lurk here.

THe HAMB truly has it's place in the Traditional culture or whatever you want to lable the trend in barebones down to earth hotrodding, but I don't think the movement has grown because of the HAMB, I think it's the other way around.

But.....this palce is a very important part of todays hotroding to me.

    Thanks Ryan.

Mention the H.A.M.B down here and you still get dumb looks and stares but the chosen few are spreading the Gospel of the H.A.M.B Downunder

Well I'm new to the HAMB, as I have been a traditional hot rodder for some 12 years now, which I know is not very long, however; I am not all that old. Too make a long story short, this is a great place with people who have the same interests, styles who are willing to share their advise and experience with you. As far as traditional hot rods, its about time they had a huge come back, as I was getting sick of the cars which "LOOK LIKE BARS OF SOAP" travelling down the road... Thanks for allowing a fellow neighbour north of the boarder, to be involved with the truly "American Hot Rod" culture.... Avoid the Boyd.....

  20. You know being stuck in the middle of hot rod purgatory I happened to stumble on this place several years ago as I was begining to work on my first project in ages. Around here "hot rod" is as foreign as the term "traditional" in the automotive realm. I quickly realized that "traditional" cars were what my dad always talked about as far as style. I didn't have a lot of guidance previously and probably would have thrown a bunch of billet crap together until I started logging on here daily and learned about different styles, themes, eras etc. There is NO BETTER PLACE for me to learn than the HAMB. Thanks Ryan!

  21. being a young guy (24) and living in a "tuner" society i gotta say with all the boards I go on this one is the kindest place. I don't want to say it;s because of the age of most of the members because i might get slapped but lol it does play a factor.

i can learn anything and everything on here about rodding and if i don't see it, i can ask and someone is kind enough to respond.

    ok... group hug!

I always hated the cars that were too bright, too plasticky, too sanitary, and had been sheared of the styling touches of their day. For instance, the beautiful Ford door handles of the '30s. I couldn't figure out why anyone would cut that off and be proud that they had a little plastic fob to open their doors instead.

For appreciating the things I've always liked about old cars and the ways they were built and customized, I love this board. Thanks Ryan. I'm glad I had a chance to meet you at the Roundup to put a face with the name.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there sweetie. ;) There are a large number of traditional shows that have started or grown by leaps and bounds because of the HAMB. Some of these shows only source of adversting is on the HAMB and by word of mouth. In my opinion the HAMB is directly responsible for the majority of the traditional hot rod movement and it's growth.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, there has always been guys building traditional hot rods and customs BUT the amount of new folks, shows, events, suppliers, products, (ie growth), has to come from somewhere and I believe it is a DIRECT result of the HAMB spreading the gospel of traditioanl hot rods and customs worldwide. I can not think of any other more significant influence then the HAMB.

Young guys are getting the help, guidance, suggestions, and kudos to be successful in their builds and the older, more experinced guys, are staying involved by helping these younger fellows. It's s win/win situation and the hobby is growing because of it.
