IMG_3360.JPG IMG_3359.JPG Hi all... can anyone tell me if this Bonneville trophy from 1990 was for Salt Circus, which I believe was owned by George Campbell at the time? I was told this came from an estate sale in St. Louis, and I suspect it could have come from a family member as George p***ed away many years ago... the T- shirt was found at the same sale, but it is quite possible that it's a coincidence... (?) ...I tried to decode the cl*** on the trophy which appears to say ** STR, but I could not find enough information online to make any sense of it.

Can anyone shed light on this? It's a mystery to me at the moment.

    Any information is appreciated!

It is. ** in 1990 was the designation for aftermarket heads on a X engine. George had a 12 port on his GMC powered street roadster. The record listed in the 1991 rule book shows that speed and Salt Circus as the entry and G. Campbell as driver.

Yes George ran in **/STR. There should be a name on the plack that the **/STR is on. I have the same trophy from '90 except for my car. It says Bonneville .90 and then below that the entry name and at the bottom the cl*** and speed. Tony Huntmire (spelling) ownes the car now and would no doubt be interested in the trophy. I sold George my Howard head GMC from my coup and he ran it in the roadster until it died. Then he built his own.

Yeah I see it now. I was so focused on what ** STR means that i didn't notice it also clearly says Salt Circus in the middle... My eyes are getting bad. I was looking at a photo when I should have looked at the trophy itself! Duh...

Thank you both for helping me understand!

Does anyone know when the SCTA first started using this trophy. I have one that is silver but doesn't have a date or plaque. Some one said it may have been from the 60's but no way of knowing for sure.

I only have the one like that. They change every year. The streamliner remains the same. A silver trophy would be for fast in cl***, but no record. I don't know what they were doing in the 60s.

image.jpeg I have a few like the one shown. Right around that time some one in the SCTA felt we should keep the record trophies all the same similar to the NHRA. I liked the idea also. Les Leggitt may have been involved along with Mike Cook. They since changed the base but all get the big streamliner on top.
The SCTA El Mirage records now have the large roadster for car records and motorcycle on the ones for them.

  9. Uh it says Salt Circus right on the trophy so I am going out on a limb here and say that it was indeed for salt circus.

    Thanks for the heads up
Yes we own the Salt Circus
George was a friend and we were able to acquire it
We currently do not have a **O motor in it. We have a low budgit SBC. We have a 302 to build and the plan is to switch to XO Street Roadster next season
I think the trophy belonged to George's sister as I think she live in your area and she finished out his estate after his p***ing in a auto accident
We would be interested in matching the trophy back to the car. Send me a PM please
