    Ok, I happen to have 2 narrow wide 5s, the 3 1/2" version with the "artillery" type centers. I also have 4 of the 5" version with the commercial centers (yeah, the really kool ones). 100 extra bonus points if you can guess my thought before I finish it, and we're on the honor system here as in I have to take your word for it;)

    So I'm thinking. pondering, wondering, hesitating as well, about a change. Do I take the centers out and make up a 1-off set of big n little wheels with commercial centers? I love the offset in the deep 5" wheel, pretty pissed off lookin for a wide 5. If I put the commercial center in the 3 1/2" rim then my 6.00 and 7.00 tires have a natural home, I get offset rears and standard offset fronts, *****in commercial centers on the skinny fronts. And a pair of artillery 5" wheels with a *****in offset too. Seems like I'm mullering up a pair of rare wheels or I'm creating a set of killer wide 5s. Push me over the edge or pull me back. I'm ready for it.

    In closing who guessed the idea before I spilled the beans?

    Um...nevermind;)

    Hey, I'm not familiar with "commercial centers", would you post up a pic of one to educate me?

    I can't claim I figgered it out before you explained...but....I like your thinking. It is along the lines of something I could see myself doing if I had the wheels in hand. Rare or not, they are just wheels. So, I would follow through and enjoy the results. ;)

    Personally I don't think a 6.00 tire would look right on a 3.5 wheel. But I also think that tire is too big for the front of your sedan anyways.

    Yep knew where you was headed in the first paragraph, it is a hot rod forum ;)

    I agree, go for it! Might as well take something you probably won't use and turn it into something you will.

    Also just because the factory didn't do it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done!

    You gotta post pics if you do though !

    I say it's called hot rodding, so why not? I agree that 6.00 tire is big for a 3.5 wheel, the tire needs to be smaller, which will also accentuate the big 'n littles look.

    I dig the idea!, switch the centers out for sure! A 6.00 tire might be a bit much for the 3.5 inch rim. it might look like a small balloon. 5.50 or 5.60 might be better but still keep some more tread....Id switch the centers out and put the 6.00 tires on the font wheels and see what it looks like, then decide.

    You mean, you have some expensive and irreplaceable 80+ year old parts that you want to butcher in the hopes that you'll impress yourself and maybe four other people?

    This is the HAMB. This is what we do. ;) :D

    Here's the 5" with commercial center and 7.00 tire;

    Here's the 6.00 on the 3 1/2;

    The 5.50s that are on it look way too small. Counter-intuitive as it may seem it's also too low. Damn, did I say that? Yeah, I did, too low. See it here;

    My description of "commercial" centers refers to the 3/4 ton truck wheel center, no "spider" or artillery spokes like a regular wide 5. I'm likely going to do it. End up with a pair of 5" standard wide 5s and a pair of 3 1/2 commercials. FWIW, the 6.00s we're already on the 3 1/2 wheels and look fine. Same bulge to the sidewall as the 7.00s, and 5.50s on the comm wheels look like a tow dolly to me. Big car for a 5.50 front. Keep those cards n letters coming;)

    The stance on that thing is perfect and is exactly how I want my 39 standard to sit. It may be close to that, cant really tell since the front clip is off, hoping to get it back on this weekend. Whats the combo you went with to get that stance? @theHIGHLANDER

    Here's the thing Jason, it wants to bottom real easy. I'm in MI and our roads get holes big enough for families to live in. Not only that but those small tires seem like they'd want to roll under in a panic situation. It's a 4" dropped axle and longer shackles (got it like that). I'd like to raise it overall about 1 1/2-2" front and rear to keep the stance, but also be able to drive with no worries. Looks good in pictures but likely wouldn't operate well. Just some random thoughts.

    I'd like to see it raised a bit. A wide wide 5 would be perfect on the rear. Nice car no matter what you decide to do.

    Do the commercial wheels. Leave off the hubcaps though. I like the look of those wheels without the caps. That car is perfect by the way.

    Yes cool car. I think the front tire is also too small.
    The body shape accentuates it.
    The rims are perfect for that car. What engine you running?

    It's a stock 59AB with a fresh rebuild and just dual exhaust for now. Never owned a flattie before this and I'm anxious to get it on the road. Have custom interior going in, paint is Henry Ford original so I'm off the hook for a body re-work.
    Here's my build thread:

    Seat material, front cushions coming along:

    I've aligned the doors, got floor going in, ready to tackle the wiring pretty soon. Thanks for all the compliments and support. Gotta love the HAMB ;)
