It's almost to that point already. With all the airbag/hydro, flake, candy, lace, astros craze...

Move over DP90... the next fad is here.

I have had a kustom, a hotrod and a Lowrider. They are have been fun and I like them all in different ways....The style of car I have now (62 galaxie with pinner whites dropped low) is a lot of fun. I am drawn to this style cause I grew up with them around the house and the hood. There ain't nothin wrong with that style. Every show I havebeen to has had them mixed in with the customs and the rods.

We can't all have 32 fords or shoeboxes:D

it's not really a craze, like flat black, red wheels and white walls. low riders have existed, almost in the same state, for decades, going in and out of the mainstream's evil focus.

    Fad???

Lowriders have been building passion fueled rides by their own rules long before the label existed. Just because it took 30+ years to gain some mainstream acceptance of what an artform it is, it doesn't make it something new.

I remember seeing the Gypsy Rose for that split second in the opening sequence of 'Chico and the Man' when I was like 2 years old. I've had a secret love for lowriders ever since.

Like it or not, lowriders have always been a significant part of automotive history. In my opinion they did an fantastic job of continuing the tradition of the original customs as they faded away when people realized that flashy musclecars were easier to obtain and were just as effective for picking up chicks.

If there really is something like this brewing around here, I would absolutely support it any way I can. Its about time that lows get the respect they deserve.

Now that I'm done ranting, I'm gonna go crank some Brant Bjork and polish my wires.

PS-- As for the DP90 comment... I've always been of the opinion that almost any vehicle can be made cooler by painting it flat black.

Yo 'vato...ok I'm sorry I just couldn't resist. I agree. Lowriders have been around for decades upon decades. So why separate em from tradition? It's another unique expression with a foundation in the kustoms of the past. It's just that here with few exceptions, most stuff is pre-66. But I have seen newer rides with no complaints. I don't care for the hard-core lowrider look. i do like a ride that's realistically low and sneeky though. So do most of us I think.

I think my post was misunderstood...

    Customs>Radical Show Cars>Flake jobbies>Lace stuff>Low Riders

True, low riders have never actually gone away, but I do bet that there will be more of it going on soon when all the '60s/'70s style guys get bored.

I dont know how it is in other parts of the country, but around here the lowrider scene is "hopping" (sorry)

could be all the mexicans that make it so dominant, but there are a hell of alot of whites (myself included) involved to.

some of the shit isnt my style but I love lowriders and give all my respect to the guys that are doing things right

the energy at a hopping competition is crazy. True car love. Even the work put into the street cars is intense.

Also there is nothing wrong with 60s style customs

what about the nwa era? hopping low riders dominated music videos, and consequently, mtv. if mtv isn't the home of over exposure and the soon-to-be played out fad, i don't know what is.

the demarcation point is the release of the 100 spoke dayton. pre-dayton 100 = traditional...:)

I don't really like lowriders. I'm just saying this but as a guesstimate most of the guys with a lowrider probaly didn't do their own body work and what not...if lowriders didn't have the cheesy interiors, and crazy paintjobs with a thousand different things on it/written on it in crazy cursive letters I would be more than fine with them. but till then I say NAY to lowriders...

this is reminding me of Hot Rod saying the early Nascar-Trans am look is the next big thing...then I looked in the driveway at my cutlass (which has been that way for about 6 years now)and said RIIIGHT. every kid in america is just dying for black wheels, open trim holes and a rollbar inside an otherwise deserted interior.this too, will pass.the Hard will remain Hard and the rest will eventually decide this is not for them, but typically after screwing up at least one peice of nice tin.
