I made a decision some time ago to purchase a Hotrod at or near ready for the road and I purchased one from a Hamber @VoodooTwin. VoodooTwin had aquired the car from Hamber@HomemadeHardtop57. Homemade was the builder and Voodoo did some mods as well. The Missus did the wheelin and dealin and a deal was struck. This was my first experience with this vintage of vehicle. I am still enjoying the primitive rawness of this Hotrod modding/repairing here and there respecting the approximate vintage it represents which I peg around 1962. So Hamb Recyclers...What's your story?... The Early Beginnings (the nearly forgotten Coupe) 3 generations below... Recycled 1 Recycled 2 Recycled 3 I'm a happy Camper...
I don't have any great stories yet but I'm resurrecting a 61 Lark from the dead. It's the OHV 6, which actually isn't a bad engine. They have a rep for cracking heads but I got this one running, purrs real nice. Redoing the brakes now and replacing the water pump, then off to clutch.
Did you acquire this through a Hamber Star? Hence the ***le. I guess its a little twist in a sence...Hambers to Hambers. I edited the ***le to be more specific. That car looks pretty solid Star...
I need to learn to read, haha. The guy might be a Hamber but I don't know if he is. Thanks man! It doesn't have a lick of rust, stupid surface stuff in the roof of the cab and under the hood but underneath is spotless, dirty but spotless. It just needs a lot of love. It looks like someone tried to daily drive it with all the screwy wiring in the engine bay but it's time the car got some loving. (The valve cover is painted now, Ford Red. It really makes this tired engine bay pop now) (This is it after I painted it. It's sitting on my set up for prebaking the paint. I got a hole cut out in the cardboard under the VC and a hairdryer blowing hot air into it. I do that about 3 times for 30 mins or so before installing it)
@StarDiero75 you need two more carbs to keep that lonely one company...Hop it up a bit...I understand baby steps...and yes the new paint looks sharp.
Sold this car during a divorce. Went to Wisconsin. Would like to know what happened to it. Was a Plymouth coupe with a Willys nose. Called Faded Memories.
Here's the story how I ended up with my current project. It was originally purchased by Corndog at an estate sale. When I asked him if he had any info on the car this is what he told me 4 yrs ago.... "I bought it from a guy named Lynn from Monticello, Indiana. He is 64 years old. He said he bought the car when he was 14 and wanted to build a hot rod. His father had a body shop and mostly restored high end cars like Auburn, Dusenberg etc. The 32 was still in his dads old body shop when I bought it. He said he took the car all apart and when his dad found out he was going to build a hot rod he put the stop to it. It sat in the back of the shop until I bought it about a year or so ago. The guy I bought it from was not really a "car guy" and when he held an auction for his mother after his dad died, I bought some of the 32 parts that went with that car as they somehow got mixed in with other stuff that was being sold. Lynn did not know they were 32 Ford parts at the time of the auction and no one ever mentioned at that time that there was a completer 32 sedan in the garage. It was about five years after the auction that I ran into Lynn and he asked me if would be interested in the car." Corndog (Paul) then sold it to krylon32 (Gary Mussman from Cornhusker Hotrods) from whom i purchased it from. It then went to HAMBer the metalsurgeon (Jon Bingham) who chopped it to perfection. Hoping to get it on the road in 2018 ! https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/32-sedan-lakester-roof-chop.934219/
Faded Memories...catchy name Southcross. Interesting combination of vehicles to create that. Any other pics from the side? Perhaps the owners a Hamber...never know, small world sometimes. Poor fellow never got to realize his dream. I can relate a bit to that... You can take his spirit for a cruise in that Hotrod when your done... Thats coming along great by the way.
Thanks man, I was thinking the same but I dont think they make speed parts for the OHV 6, and i dont have a shop to custom make parts. I may do a weber 32/36 setup on it, thats what I did to my 65 Ranchero 200
If you haven't you NEED to join the Studebaker Drivers Club, and if, and I'm pretty sure they do make some speed goodies for that OHV, those guys will know.
I think the old guy who worked on Auburn, Dusenberg and I think Cords in Monticello IN. was Harlen Skaggs. I wish had know that '32 was in town it might not have ever left. As always a day late and a dollar short. LOL Dennis
Ya gotta admit Deluxe is fulfilling the old fella's wish in style... Despite your missed opportunity and you provided more details on the fellow that owned the 32. That what makes threads special.
