Wow, LUX-you let this one get away??? Let me tell you, we did AAALLL the body work on Jeepers Creepers and we will do the rest when the time/money comes. My uncles and grandfather did all their own work as well. Bellflowers, lows, whatever-kool is kool:cool:

I'm still trying to get the Los Boulevardos to help me invade the Lowrider Southwest Summer Tour. My cousin is performing and wants some rides, including mine for his stage/booth area. This could be the beginning...:D

i think it's my exposure to lowriders here in san diego that built my initial interest in cars. i can remember going to car shows with my dad and what stood out most was the heavy flake. ...and it didn't hurt that that these cars were usually surrounded by latinas mas caliente! i can do without the escalades and shit...but there are still plenty of oldies around here and i love to look at them everytime.

"I don't really like lowriders. I'm just saying this but as a guesstimate most of the guys with a lowrider probaly didn't do their own body work and what not...if lowriders didn't have the cheesy interiors, and crazy paintjobs with a thousand different things on it/written on it in crazy cursive letters I would be more than fine with them. but till then I say NAY to lowriders..."

I'm guessing you know nothing about lowriders, and seemed to forget that this wasn't about the type of lowrider you just described.....

I love lowriders, I grew up around them... I'm not a fan of the crazy interiors or the new style lows with 20's and now was dissapointed with the first "donk" feature in Lowrider Magazine.

But, not all lows are like that... we feature some clean, old school lowriders on our site.

    check it out...

Ryan how much do you charge to set up a board? Maybe we could add a message board to www.losboulevardos.com open to all traditional lowriders.

Hey, Deadend, I wanted to compliment you on your magazine-the layout and design are gorgeous!
Kreapin', you're right, I didn't pay attention to the 'most' in your post, an important modifier. But the implication of 'most' is 'more than some'. My suggestion to you is to check into the culture of lowriding abit more. I agree that gaudy is gaudy; in the late 80's, I pretty much gave up on lowriders all together. It was only when I got older and had the patience to do the research that I got a full appreciation for the cars. I approach music the same way and can listen to anything, usually because I can appreciate the time and talent it took to make it. Taste is definately a matter of personal opinion, though. Funny sidenote which will lead to much more discussion: Lowrider Magazine has a 'History of Lowriding' book out. In Ch.1, they refer to the cars that Barris Bros. built as 'lowriders' and the cars we call 'kustoms', 'lowriders'. Thoughts?

Yeah, man, I checked it out. Off the fuckin hook. How kool is that to actually see some excellent kustomizing and real rods instead of a bunch of rusted bullshit and fad clothing. I enjoyed the preview. Thanx for posting it.

i was drunk last night when i posted what i said:eek:

    ,,so i missunderstood the topic,,,

,however,,, what i was meaning to say is that while lowriding is already somewhat mainstream(check out layitlow.com and youll see) is that i HOPE lowriding doesnt become the next chopper/ratrod/gasser/trend of the week fad ..

it would really suck for me to go to a car function and see gold chainers and bandwagon jumpers lined up in lowriders ,who these same people having no respect for the culture and history of lowriders ,but rather just doing it because its the latest craze..

i grew up around lowriders,,my dad was a member of a very famous lowrider club and they have been in my blood my entire life...would just hate to see the same thing happen to lowriding that has happened to choppers.tattoos, trad hotrods etc...

that is what i was trying to get across!:D

if Ryan did start a traditional lowrider website i would back him 110%!

    I love lowriders.
The worst I've ever seen are Hondas, Camrys. Makes you feel bad for the owners because they're cars they will own for the rest of their lives.

The big American lowriders give me wood: 68 Cadillacs, early 60's Pontiacs, Rivieras. Even the late 70's early 80's Cutlasses, Grand Prixs, El Caminos look great as lowriders.

A lot of effort and love goes into these cars. Plus the guys who build them usually have great connections for getting stuff done on the cheap.

Based on the syntax of your first posts I sorta thought you may be mildy "influenced", but as I wrote my first reaction, part of me shared your fears that a bunch of clueless fucks would quickly jump in taint the waters.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that its pretty unlikely that the typical dumbass scenester would be willing to make the commitment to juice a car or even bag it. Gold chainers would never join in because of existing cultural conflicts that already stigmatize lowriders in their eyes. At the other end of the spectrum there are already some really halfassed ghetto lowrders in existence but that happens in all aspects of the hobby.

When the smoke clears, the cream always rises to the top. Those with vision, skills and the ability to stay true to themselves will continue to roll supreme (pun intended).

right on Raspy--you speaka my language. The lowrider guys I grew up with took things to an extreme rarely seen in other parts of the automotive world.these are the guys that came up with alot of the stuff we use on customs now--and ain't it amazin' how alot of guys give no credit to the guys that did it first! Hydros,Air bags, fully chromed frames (jesus, can you imagine these guys bill at the chrome shop? yikes!)

I should mention that I am fully aware of who else is on this forum, and pay mad respect to Ryan and the Journal before I say what I am gonna say next, but here goes...

I am a firm beleiver that most of Americas top builders/fabricators build lowriders and nothing else. We simply don't see them in "polite" society due to the stigma associated with them. Every guy with a lowrider is gonna steal your mommas purse and is a gangster. We can thank movieland for that. what do the evil Mexican gangsters drive? 64 impalas on hydros.

on that same note, everyone with a 70's camaro or a disco Vette probably has a coke habit.

I don't even want to know what THEY think of ME.

That car I have no problem with, that 59 is beautiful! Then I'm with you lowriders are cool as long as they don't have the cheap interiors, stupid big rims, and just about anything in lowrider mag...besides the chicas:)

True lowlows are extremely beautiful, even if you aren't into them.

Very good points, LUX. Also, why is that every smart guy in a movie wears glasses?:D Maybe the lowrider will end up as an extension of the desire to be a part of outlaw culture. As choppers and the 'biker look' go mainstream, people will crave the next verboten cultural accruement.
And 'Christina' rides shotgun in the mulletmobiles, not coke, man; the Beemer guys do coke!:D

    Slamdpup, that Caddy is sweet.

That's true about the video music era. Even up here in podunk cheeseville Wisconsin, if you would have come to high school in a gold Dayton-wearing '64 Impala in 1995, then you would have been looked upon as being seated at the right hand of God (in a bass boat swivel seat covered in angel hair)

I have plans to bag my '64 Olds but I wouldn't want to see the good bellflower style lows disappear from the HAMB only to turn up on a different website. I like the variety that's on here now.

there's a market for the trad low enthusiast as much as there was for trad rod and custom guys. the layitlow board is no place for traditionalists, too many donk wannabe's...good luck to the losboulevardos guys!

Too late-Boyd already built the 'Ghetto Princess'.
Oh, here's an idea- an all white sorority at Kent State got in trouble for giving a Most Ghetto Award. Couldn't we get the PC watchdogs on Boyd for the same thing.
No lowrider in their right mind would name their ride 'Ghetto Princess'; maybe 'Aztlan Angel' or something. 'Jeepers Creepers'-now THERE'S a lowrider name!:D:D:D
