I told you it was a stupid idea. I don't do much that real hot rodders would approve of.

My machinist/buddy has this on his 5 window. T-bird with the chrome grille reworked a bit. Pin striping by Mitch Kim. I think it would p*** for traditional.

Mine isn't so much a scoop as it is a swoopy cutout, I call it the Stromberg Portal.

To me, the scoop Red Greth made for the Speed Sport roadster in 1957 is the best looking scoop ever made, and totally traditional. Red made this one for me from his 1957 mold, and I treasure it.

  18. Great looking Willys, don't pay attention to poor mouthing about your scoop adapter, hot rodding is about doing what you have to do to get where you want to be...

No offense taken, trust me. At 69 yrs old and having the car since 1964, it is EXACTLY what I wanted it to be and I appreciate other's opinions but they don't have much impact on me.

A welder, some 1 1/2" muffler tubing, and some flat sheet metal. You can duplicate most anything. IMG_20170924_192723.jpg

Pontiac used this same scoop on the Super Duty cars. They bought the scoops from Ford and used a different chrome piece at the front is all

    Hello,

In 1965-66, going to college in Northern California, San Jose area, I saw a lot of these scoops in the neighborhood. At the Fremont Dragstrip, there were some early hot rodders that used the San Jose Mercury Newspaper yellow, cubby holes that everyone (residential) had on the streets of San Jose. They looked just like the pictures above.

There was also the compe***ion newspaper from San Francisco called the Chronicle with their tubes, too. They looked a little odd, but as far as getting in that valuable air, they did the job. Plus, it was virtually free.

The yellow color stood out well and if your car was painted yellow, it “flowed” more ways than one.

  25. It wasn't this scoop. This is a one year only '56 Ford Big Job truck scoop. I have one of these for my '40. This scoop is very rounded and heavy cast pot metal. Pontiac used the square '58? and newer one. I would show you a picture of mine. But I just lent it to a friend of mine that makes gl*** parts. He wants to make a mold of it. Soon as I get it back, I will.

No worries on finding a pic, I know the one you're talking about. They are highly sought after.
If the mold is good you could probably do pretty well selling copies. I'm sure there are several guys over at FTE (Ford Trucks Enthusiasts) board that would be interested....good luck with it.
Yea, I was referring to the later ones.

Your buddy's scoop is the cat's pajamas! Damn that is nice. Great style and the stripe work really sets it off.

1960 Bakersfield Smokers Meet Jerry Card vs Leffler Bros...
    Hello,
As far as newspaper delivery air scoops for old race cars at the dragstrip, here is an old photo of Jerry Card's Comp Coupe (Yellow scoop) vs Leffler Bros, coupe. This was taken in 1959 during eliminations at the 2nd annual Bakersfield Smokers March Meet.

    Jnaki
How can the powers to be call this a fair start? The Leffler Bros coupe was pretty fast and was the record holder, but "geez," a rolling start advantage? That was not too fair then or now.
