  2. I'm sure you've seen this photo of how mine sits. Custom springs and No lowering blocks.

  3. Rim size has Nothing to do with Tire size (make that Tire height). 14's were simply to run the Hubcaps in the Photo. Personal choice.

Yup that works! So basically, Granada stock 9 inch, which you just moved the perches , and custom leaf springs. Did you have the springs made or did you get them somewhere already done? This looks like the direction i will head in. Makes it alot simpler and easy on the mind and less over thinking when i know what someone with the same type of car used , and what had to be done , to plan mine. As you said, cheaper, easier to modify and works. Thanks!

  6. Pipes; Yes, stock Granada unit except for the Gear set. You already have that part covered. The springs are Custom built and a progressive unit. That means each leaf is thicker in front of center bolt and get thinner to the rear. They are also de arched and I believe that was 2.5". I want to say there are 4 leafs but may be 5, been to many years to remember off the top. I guess I could go look if you need to know. Any good spring shop can do this for ya, it's all load rated stuff. As I remember with bushings, shackles and U-Bolts it was around $400.oo. That was around 15 years ago. If you actually want to Street drive your car as well as Beat on it you'll be much happier with this choice. You'll actually have a Ride that isn't like a Ridged Frame, not that there's anything Wrong with a good Ridged Frame.

Just out of curiosity, what a 57 rear go for these days?

  10. Finding on complete drum to drum is near impossible anymore. If you do it will need to be rebuilt anyway. I had seen them in the 3 to 4 hundred range but none for some time now. There's no real advantage of it being 57-59 for your project. If your doing a Model A and could see it, the 57 style just Looks better from behind. There's no notch or dimples.

I kinda figured thats what they were costing. I having a hard enough time finding a Granada rear let alone something like that. A friend knows where two or 3 late 50s cars are at in junk yard that is supposed to be closing. Supposed to be a sedan delivery and a wagon. I heard the guy is over priced but he offered to ask this weekend.I called 4 places today about a granada rear,, one said no nothing that old , one said we crushed them all years ago, another said nope good luck with that ,and the last kid said whats a Granada?? Still got a few more places to check yet though.

  13. I seem to have much better luck on Craig's List. Today's wrecking yards cater to new stuff for fast turn over and high volume. Craig's list will have the One at a time guy parting out the complete Old Junker he couldn't sell as a driver.

I can narrow them, so I like to buy the super-wide ones that other people p*** on.

I narrow my own also but I screwed up by making it the same width as the original rear end. I should of made it at least an inch shorter on each side. The larger brake drums on the nine inch make it a ***** getting tires on. Not much room between the wheel opening and the brakes.

Long ago, during the Pro Street era, I read some sage advice in Hot Rod magazine.

"Get your wheels and tires first. Make the axle and ch***is fit them."
