The smiling fellow in the roadster at the top is Jim Fox in his modified roadster. The 331 Chrysler in the roadster later went into the Weekly-Rivero-Fox & Holding B/FD and ran 199 @ 7.89.
Great site. Spotted these two pics in it, they are of the same car, first pic is from 1957 or so, second sometime in the early 60's. The car is in my shop right now getting restored to how it looked in 1959 when it made Hot Rod magazine.
Great site! Neat to see a new photo of the Don Noyes U.S.Mule II, a car I was caretaker to for 13 years. Bob
1959 Lions Dragstrip 1960 Riverside Raceway Hello, This candy apple red roadster was really fast. (even with the whitewalls) In 1959-60, it set a cl*** record of 152.80 mph in the altered roadster cl*** at Riverside Raceway. I was fortunate enough to film this record setting roadster at Lions during the 1959 season. Brissete, Eichenhofer, and Quincy Automotive build/race team. Jnaki If the driver weren’t sitting in the middle, it could have been a 50’s era street roadster in appearance. The popular color then was “Candy Apple Red” or some other variation called “Tahitian Red.” https://www.youtube.com/edit?video_id=Uzj2fK5J3AI&video_referrer=watch
I appreciate the remarks. I started the site in 2013 and have been adding photos ever since. Glad you guys like it. According to the site host (Domain.com), it's been averaging 95,551 hits per day from Jan 1, 2017 through Aug 30, 2017, a total of 23,123,459 hits so far this year. I've been told that I'm an idiot for not charging a membership fee or sticking adds all over it, but there are some things that are just more important than moola, and early drag race car photos from the '50's and '60s are one of them in my opinion. If these photos bring back the viewers memories of a great period in our sport, that is good enough for me... George
View attachment 3578847 I am trying to figure out what's going on here. Looks like it should have a Potvin setup but it doesn't. Anyone got a clue what those tubes running over the front of the motor are?
My father Gary Essman he raced this Bantam for awhile . Check out my Dad's thread search Gary Essman a lot great pictures

Actually it didn't. Hard to tell from the pic but the radiator hoses just went down to the water pumps. Not sure why it looks like the p*** on the outside of the frame. Bobby would pull the hose off the head and fill it with water. Guess it wouldn't get hot enough during a p*** to blow the hose off! Water pumps were not turning either, no belt.
