Will a 6-71 blown sbc fit into a 37-40 Ford engine compartment using the current crop of commercially available engine mounting kits? Bottom blower pulley is 3" out from the balancer. I don't want to cut into the firewall. Anyone with actual pics of this?
Not sure if the engine bay is exactly the same as 37-40 but a guy down the road from me has a 41 Ford Sedan with a blown small block Chevy in it. Fits fine, didn't look at the firewall but other than the blower whine you'd never know it was in there, don't recall whether the engine mounts were purchased or built by owner.
If it's a typical modern blower drive on it, with the 3" belt, keep in mind you can save an inch by going to a 2" wide belt. Might require a different snout on the blower, though. I run a 2" belt on my street/strip blown 427, seems to work just fine at 5 psi boost
I can't see it fitting into a '37-'39 standard. The radiator lays back at an angle, making things really close. '39 Deluxe & any '40 would accept a blower equipped Chevy easily.
Ahhh a 2" belt, thanks Squirrel, guess I'll shop around for that setup. I haven't bought anything yet, car or blower, just trying to do some planning.
Well, with a Hurst front mount, a SBC will have the back withing a scooch of the firewall...imagine a BBC would have to cut it, or think of moving things in the front forward...then there's the blower add-ons
Can anyone with a firewall unaltered sbc equipped 39/40 Ford give me a measurement from the water pump mounting surface on the block to the face of the radiator, also which mounting kit/style you used?
