========================================== EDIT: Thanks to all the input, I'm gonna run away from this thing. It sure looked good on ebay. Thank god I had him send me some more pics!!! And thanks again for the help!! =========================================== PICS: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4633052562&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT I'm about ----> <----- this close to buying this car for 11 grand. What do you think? It's airbagged(says it cost $4500), 330hp (supposedly) Chevy 350, 700R4 trans, good rubber, rust fixed(supposedly) floor patched(questionably?), 8" Ford rear end, no door glass. If you can think of any questions I need to ask the buyer as well, I'm all ears! I've never bought a car across the country like this before, so all I have to go by are photos, unless I can get my friend in Boston to fly down and take a look! He said he's near Jacksonville. LOTS MORE PICS: http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y244/johnny1290/51%20ford/ The engine/trans are about 3 years old from when they were rebuilt, and are supposedly low mileage. Needs an interior(obviously) and I'm sure some more body work to make it straight, but it looks fine to me as is. What do you think? All opinions appreciated! thanks you guys!!!! EDIT: whoops! I copied and pasted this from a post I made to the forum on grassrootsmotorsports.com, and forgot I said something about the topic being OT.
What do I think? I think $11large is a lot to drop on a car you've never seen in person, driven, or heard run at least. I also think you'd do better with a nice "Hello!" intro too. Say howdy to the nice boys and girls here and they'll be nice to you. You wrote - "I know this isn't a hotrod board, but I know I'll get down to earth, honest answers around here without flaming(I hope!), so please forgive if I'm off topic." I think you've not been here very long either. I also think you may be the seller of the car, or a schill for the seller trying to figure out if you've priced the car right. At any rate, I personally wouldn't pay $11G for that but then again, it's not my style. If you like enough then buy it. If you're not sure, check out the car with your eyeballs and drive it. That's what I stink er think....
could be worth it, but with those welds on the roof, i GARANTY itts got atLEAST a gallon of bondo on the roof alone, LOL... and the back window lay down is ALL wrong... i would think you are better off gettin a $1500 starter car, choppin it yourself, maybe keepin the flatty... you can come out cheaper... dig the flames... but the back window is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off, and you will end up redoing it, atleast i PRAY you do... so if you can deal with doin interior (i wouldnt care about taht), and redoin the top on a 11k car, go for iut!
Look at how bad the work is on the inside. Its a mess. Just imagine what the welds and fabrication work look like on all the areas you cant see, like as mentioned above, lots of bondo on the roof. Look at the floor pannel patch section just tacked in. It would take a good sheetmetal man to make the right filler pannels to move the back window further up, or pieces from a doner car. Even the bodywork on the top around the B pillars is awful! He didnt even do the bodywork on the doors near the A pillars. If a builder slacks that much, and shows so little care for even cosmetics, how can you trust any of his work? My Air ride setup cost me about $2000 using a used Air Ride brand tank and compressor and set of big red valves, then I added another set of big reds, and bags. Its 4 way, all Air Ride brand, no cheap hydraulic valves used for air, Firestone bags, DOT line, and it wasnt $4500. That is more like a $1000 air ride system man. I would think that the air ride is probably as half assed as the rest of the car. I cant believe its even at $7k. I'd pass.
This isn't a hotrod board? I should leave then! LOL IMHO the car isn't worth that much. Bad chop, no interior, no chrome except grille (actually a good '51 is hard to find, so that's something) not much to look at under the hood. I don't know about the airbag setup, those wheels don't sit right.
The back window looks the worst in this picture, it almost look like right above it that it dips in... No way I'd pay 11G's for it
Thank you fellas! My bad for not introducing myself, I'm new to the board(obviously) from Los Angeles, and at long last I'm in the market for a car, for around 10 grand. I prefer Fords, but I wouldn't say no to a great looking Chevy. Kreapin': ...BOY am I glad I got him to snap some more pictures!!! If you look at the ebay ad, he never shows you the profile, and now I see why, after looking at how wierd that rear window is from the side. Chad and '51 Ratt: Once again, I'm glad I got him to take photos of that roof from the inside. The patches on the pie cuts in the roof look horrible and weren't done right, and naturally there must be a tons of bondo. The welds on the patch panels on the floorboard look worse than even I can do. Yeah, just not a lot of craftsmanship put into it, and I shudder to think of what he *covered up*, if the visible stuff is so ugly. I was suspicious of a $4500 airbag setup as well, seemed like too much to me but I'm not familiar with bags. Well thanks for the honest and insightful opinions! I came to the right place! I'm going to keep my money in my pocket and continue the search. FWIW his first ebay auction got up to almost 10grand, but his reserve was 12 so it didn't fly. I spoke to the seller today and he said he'd take 11. Now to my eyes it looks like more of a 6 grand car or there abouts. oh another FWIW, I'd just copied and pasted this post that I'd made on another forum(grassrootsmotorsports.com) cuz I didn't want to retype it, and I forgot that I'd mentioned it wasn't a hotrod forum. Whoops! It's my first post Thanks again!
Hell no! lol Looks like the back glass got too hot and slid down onto the trunk. Heh...bondo pushin' out between the panels on the inside. Olson
$11k..seems like 10k too much for what you're getting..it has airbags..that cant be that much.a chop, that costs a welder and some steel and i'd never buy anything with obvious holes in the floor and spliced dangling wires for 11k.sorry creepy
I'm an asshole..........that car sux like a cheap hoover. This car was bought from another HAMB member to a HAMB member. It went for 11 grand. It was absolutely MINT! I know, I saw it in person. Also had a fresh updated drivetrain AND pearl white interior. Something like this is where I'd lay my 11grand.
If the "goopy" welds in the floor pan are any indication of how the rest of the car was welded...stay away. Black paint over goopy (non-penetrating) welds I guess goes a long way to "hide" things...to the casual observer...not to mention the awkward profile which others mentioned. Just my .02 Seems like you may have made up your mind already...
