It is extremely annoying looking through old threads and finding page after page of deleted photobucket pics. What is the deal with this?

Photobucket is no longer free for third party hosting. So anyone of us that uses the free version cannot post pictures on other sites anymore.

that's not the problem...it's that anyone who used them in the past, has to pay to keep using them.

That was always a possibility, and why I never used them.

The internet is ephemeral. If you expect it to remain the same as time goes on, you'll be disappointed.

First.... "THEY" will take over the internet. Then..... "Zombie Apocalypse". Game over, man. Game over.

  6. I have no problem with Photobucket doing whatever they want, that is what free enterprise is about. It sure would have been nice if they had grandfathered in the old shared posts or offered to continue to share them at a reasonable cost. The way it is now all of the bulletin boards on the internet each have thousands of notes telling people that "Photobucket ****s". It will be interesting to see if they can survive, or if they do how much money they lose. I wonder if someone sold their stock short?

What ****s is (are?) sites that don't let you post directly to the site, instead they have you use things
like Photobucket. I have a Photobucket account that I haven't used, or even looked at, in years.

I found these links posted over at T.R.A.K last week by Bernard Kron. The Mozilla link worked for me.
Post by Bernard Kron on Aug 27, 2017 at 4:41pm An add-on (plug-in) has been developed, originally for Chrome and now ported over to Mozilla Firefox, that re-establishes the links to all Photobucket images that have been blocked with the Photobucket "Logo of Death" (see below. So far it's available only for Firefox & Google Chrome browsers. I will update this post if it emerges for Microsoft Internet Explorer, Edge or other popular browsers.

For Google Chrome users open Chrome and navigate here: github.com/kzahel/photobucket-embed-fix ; or here: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-embed-fix/naolkcpnnlofnnghnmfegnfnflicjjgj?hl=en

For Mozilla Firefox users open Firefox (v. 48 and above) and go here: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-embedded-fix/?src=ss

Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.

  11. I understand that Photobucket doesn't owe me "free" services. They can do yada/yada, etc/etc.
However, I am also free to say........
PHOTOBUCKET CAN BITE THE BIG GREEN WEENIE!

For some of us an iPad is our only "real computer" so maybe climb down off your high horse?

It's a low horse, the iPad is the high horse thing. My IBM keyboard I'm typing with is 25 years old, it still works fine... :)

But yeah, if you are using an iPad, you're probably sol trying to view those pictures. Sorry. Find a real computer somewhere. Doesn't have to be new or fancy, it just has to be able to run a real browser program.

The app came along a bit late for me - I already yanked all my photos from their site; but they were for old posts (pre-2014) on the Vintage Shots thread so no great loss.

    from an old hamb thread:

    Hello,
On to the point at hand: Don't you have all of your photos/movies on your home computer? If the photos and movies are taking up a lot of computer space, then put them all on an external hard drive. 3tb ($100+ amazon) will take you a long time to fill up with only photos and movies. IT IS AS EASY AS COPY A JPEG AND POST ONTO A THREAD.

The rule of thumb is that your basic computer hard drive stores most everything including stuff that makes it run. When that hard drive gets over 1/2 full, it starts to slow down. When it gets to 3/4 full, it is like running a snail for transfers, websites, etc. Your computer is being overworked. If you have space for two internal hard drives, make one only for computer stuff. Make the other one a speedy solid state hard drive to store all of the rest of the junk people store and save on their hard drives. Constantly monitor when the second drive starts to get full by deleting stuff you no longer want or use.

A simple external hard drive like the two below will cost peanuts in the long run. They are fast, lightweight, and hold a ton of stuff. If you have it hooked up to your main computer, you can program it to accept all new photos and movies to a certain folder. Then it becomes automatic. You can also program it to do a computer backup automatically.[IMG][IMG]
In an emergency, you can grab that little hard drive (S) and run... nothing else, except for your family and dog, if you have one. (the colored ones are easy to spot and your wife or kids can ID them easily) We have two external backups because they take little time to back up since they are fast. So, grab the orange one and the black or blue one and run. We had a bright red 1TB as a second backup for my old 1TB drive. Now, it is used to carry hi res photos/ movies and other large files to places that need them. It fits into any pocket and the transfers are fast and easy. hook ups to the laptop in another room is simple and fast.

With all of the photos and movies that I take (family, cars, soccer, ballet movies and photos,) the original 1TB hard drive filled up in three years. But, that also included personal files and a ton of other computer folders, photo scans, complete albums, etc. If I had it only for photos, movies, I would still be using that old, 1 TB hard drive. So, those have now been transferred to the two new back up 3TB hard drives for emergencies. It is less than 1/3 full. (spring cleaning)

I like the idea that I have instant access for all of my photos. My son goes one further and has all photos sent to the cloud account, but again, he pays monthly and is at the whim of the company, like you guys and Photobucket. The funny thing is, my son was the one to tell me about the home backup external hard drives.

I went one step beyond and got another one for everything my wife wants on the "save as" ****on. He did scan all of his family digital photos and photo print books to the cloud...but, when that goes kablooey... oh well...

Recently, there was a fire creeping up a hill behind our house. We could see the flames that the fire department was starting as a back fire... We had our evacuation hard drives ready in a bag and a change of clothes. Everything else is expendable on an emergency. All photos, s****books, important family stuff is all on the EXTERNAL hard drives as a back up bi weekly. We (wife, visiting granddaughter, dog and two cars) were ready for the evacuation that never came.

I have a Photobucket account which I used for nothing except third-party hosting. I got it before the HAMB revamp, when the photo-posting capabilities became a lot more powerful.

I've got nothing on there I don't also have somewhere else; I didn't use it for storage, nor for ordering prints or anything like that which, unaccountably, was what Photobucket seemed to want me to do. And a paid service won't work for me no matter how cheap it is, as it doesn't suit my preferred payment methods.

When I joined the HAMB in 06, using a third party image hosting site to post images was encouraged to save the then limited HAMB server space. I started using Photo****It at that point and never looked back. Guess I should have.

So now I've begun the painstaking process of relinking all of the images in my threads using the built-in HAMB photo hosting feature because those who have weighed in have said it would be of value to them. :)

I have moved my photos to my Hamb albums.

You can down load your photobucket pictures to your PC then move them here or another site.HRP

I did what brainfreeze suggested just an hour ago to take some photos from my phone to the laptop so I could send them to a vendor to show the damage their shipping clerk did to a part for my OT car. I've had two paid Photobucket accounts for years with a combined 19438 photos on them and it has become a real pain in the ***.

    Hey HRP,
If everyone moved their photos copied from all over the internet as jpegs or png. formats, wouldn't they start to overload the HAMB/Jalopy Journal files? It seems to me that Ryan and company is providing a service, but at what cost to us or them? Sure, ads play a big part, purchases also help out. But, I am wondering if everyone sent in their copied internet images as jpegs, eventually it would start to clog up their servers.

I thought the HAMB albums were only for your own family of hot rods and not the "copied from the internet" images. My suggestion would have been to get those external hard drives and have your own files for everything, including your family of hot rod builds or what not.

    Jnaki
I am not picking on you, but you seem to have a lot of weight here on the HAMB. The Photobucket fiasco is an eye opener for sure, but that is a money making business. For us, we would rather have our own photos and movies handy in our external hard drives, including another one in the safe deposit box.
    Just another $.02 cents worth.

I have a real computer. I just like sitting in my recliner instead of sitting at a desk.
