I recently bought a sata NR 2000 AND a sata R.P for less than 500 on e-bay. I would buy 'em both again at twice the price.I also have an old Sata 90 for primer. also a kick *** gun (I painted buzzard's 58 with it-and STILL havent cut or buffed that car. talk about atomization!) seriously...buy a used one for cheap and buy a rebuild kit off e-gay for 50n bucks. you should be able to get into a nice sata for less than 250 doing it this way!
If I'm sprayin' a complete car or truck I use my old Binks Mach 1 HVLP with a 2 gallon pressurized pot(25' of hose). Mix paint once, set pot down and shoot. Good for getting it to tight places as I can spray at any angle. But for smaller jobs I've got a cheapie HVLP. Sprays OK but not nearly as well as my Binks. Someday I'll step up to a Sata. Josh
The new sata 3000 are great guns. Atomiziz a whole lot better then the 2000 ever did. Jon Kozmouski from House of Kolor just did a seminar for us last Sat. and he said it was the best gun he has sprayed with. Pricey though at 600. for the non digital and 700 for the digital.
I have a couple of those Binks Mach 1 guns as well.. I loved them but I have worn them out and replacement parts are getting harder to find for them. Also if you use the 3M PPS paint cup system, you can spray at any angle or upside down with any gun... I have one cheapy pressure pot and I love it for spraying poly primer..
I always used a Binks 7. Recently bought one of the purple hvlp guns from Harbour Freight. Its sprays great with no overspray. Took a little to get used to, but totally worth the money.
Man you guys have provided a lot of great input on paint guns. I have never painted a car(almost everything else) and I'm about ready to primer the A frame. I bought the DP-90 and plan to use it. What do you guys recommend? Should I use the Chinatown cheap sprayer(cuz I bought one) to shoot it? It's the syphon fed one, not the gravity fed. They're so cheap you could almost throw them away instead of trying to clean up the DP-90. I've got to learn this stuff cuz I don't have the dinero to pay someone a gazillion bucks for a paint job. I've got more time than money . Thanks for your help, great thread!
A cheapo gun will work fine for DP. Throw in a little DT reducer in your DP and it will lay out a lot flatter.. I usually mix my DP 2:1:1 Two parts DP, one part DP401/402, and one part DT reducer..
SATA 2000 with out the digital psi read out (they fog up then melt from cleaners) i made a lot of money with a 50$ harbor freight gun to though you just need to turn up the pres. to 80ish to get a nice pattern
