Here's one of my parents 'special' in England in the early sixties. Had an 1172cc Ford flathead 4 with a small super-charger on it ...

I enjoyed your post Mike. Thanks. I'm only 35, but I have 2 young boys and I wonder about some of the things you mentioned. I never see any kids riding bikes (something I loved as a kid), and everyone I know works too much to have good family time, let alone hot rod time!

Maybe it'll all come back around.

  7. The only pic I can find in my document file.My grandmother and grandfather in their 1903 Stevens-Duryea taken around 1910.I was raised by them and still have a bunch of old pictures.Must dig them out.
The other pic is of a slightly thinner me with my 60 Chevy sedan delivery and my puppy circa 1971.

No, it's not the family car. My grandfather, the guy on the left, owned a bus line. My dad, the little guy in front, collected the fares.

Granted, these are "new" photos, but the cars have been in the family since the B&W days.

Here's my dad's 1956 Thunderbird. He bought it in 1960...second owner. And he still has it.

This is my mom's 1957 Thunderbird. When Pops bought it, it was just a rolling chassis with everything in boxes. Built it and painted it in the driveway.

    cheers!

  16. Here are some of my dad and grandad. Dad was taken in 1953, I have no idea about my grandad's.

I have others, I just have to find them. My dad's first car, a 50 Buick convertable, and his Studebaker pickup he put a hemi in, some mid 50s Buick with louvers in the hood. I think he said he paid 70 cents each for them.

  17. Here's my other grandfather, on the right. Must be about 1923.

How in theHELL did I miss this post before? I absolutely have to see more. My grandmother has a ton (litterally) of family photos from the early 1900's on up. I'll see if I can snag some and put 'em up. My great grandpa (Henry Johnson) had a shop in downtown called 'Johnny Johnson's Auto Repair' (it sounded better than Henry Johnson). What's really cool is that building later (1964) became a Discount Tire. I worked in that very building for quite a while. When Discount sold it two years ago, the rumor was it would be demolished. I got in there (legally, of course) and swiped the electrical box covers originally installed by great gramps in 1918. The building is still there but don't know how much longer. I know there are some pics of that around somewhere.
    Thanks for letting me ramble......
