Here's one of my parents 'special' in England in the early sixties. Had an 1172cc Ford flathead 4 with a small super-charger on it ...
I enjoyed your post Mike. Thanks. I'm only 35, but I have 2 young boys and I wonder about some of the things you mentioned. I never see any kids riding bikes (something I loved as a kid), and everyone I know works too much to have good family time, let alone hot rod time! Maybe it'll all come back around.
The only pic I can find in my document file.My grandmother and grandfather in their 1903 Stevens-Duryea taken around 1910.I was raised by them and still have a bunch of old pictures.Must dig them out. The other pic is of a slightly thinner me with my 60 Chevy sedan delivery and my puppy circa 1971.
No, it's not the family car. My grandfather, the guy on the left, owned a bus line. My dad, the little guy in front, collected the fares.
Granted, these are "new" photos, but the cars have been in the family since the B&W days. Here's my dad's 1956 Thunderbird. He bought it in 1960...second owner. And he still has it. This is my mom's 1957 Thunderbird. When Pops bought it, it was just a rolling chassis with everything in boxes. Built it and painted it in the driveway. cheers!
My dad in '39. 17 years old, just back from Harper Lake, turned 100.something. The other is my buddy Jim's dad, pre-war roadside tune-up, somewhere up on the Angeles Crest Highway.
these old pics are great. i like the ones where they are standing by their new cars. can anyone come up with a car early 70's and up you would like to look back on and say...man that was great car...really stylin.
Hey figiter, maybe this is a similar car? Out of the june 1951 ford times mag. Pm your address and I'll send you one.... -The catholic
Here are some of my dad and grandad. Dad was taken in 1953, I have no idea about my grandad's. I have others, I just have to find them. My dad's first car, a 50 Buick convertable, and his Studebaker pickup he put a hemi in, some mid 50s Buick with louvers in the hood. I think he said he paid 70 cents each for them.
ya know me only being 21 i realy wish i had experienced some of that stuff. I probly drive old stuff becouse i wish i was alive back then. My dad helps me probly becouse it reminds him of when he was a teenager...
How in theHELL did I miss this post before? I absolutely have to see more. My grandmother has a ton (litterally) of family photos from the early 1900's on up. I'll see if I can snag some and put 'em up. My great grandpa (Henry Johnson) had a shop in downtown called 'Johnny Johnson's Auto Repair' (it sounded better than Henry Johnson). What's really cool is that building later (1964) became a Discount Tire. I worked in that very building for quite a while. When Discount sold it two years ago, the rumor was it would be demolished. I got in there (legally, of course) and swiped the electrical box covers originally installed by great gramps in 1918. The building is still there but don't know how much longer. I know there are some pics of that around somewhere. Thanks for letting me ramble......
I'll share a few favorites of mine, of my dads cars in the fifties...... My dad (second from left) and a few buddies, they got in trouble for this shot...
i have a couple from grandpa's WWII and police days, sister took the scanner when she moved out i will have to just snap some with the digi cam tho. Awesome thread I love looking at old photos!
