on the back decklid. there is something written thats pretty retarded...the guy he bought it from was a teacher and it says "teachers pet"

its lettered with 1 shot then clear over it...im thinking since the rest of the car had pinstripes on it that werent cleared over, that the 1 shot was done on top of the clear, then maybe another coat of clear on top of that. can i take car of this myself with some sandpaper and a rattle can clear? just sand down being careful not to sand through the base, then rattle can the corner a little and wet sand and buff it out to match back up ok? if so how should i do it?

or is there anyone in NJ that can take care of this?

I don't how good you think you are, or can be with a rattlecan of clear, but you will definately NOT get it to look good spotting in a corner, especially on such a nice looking job on that cool coupe. Sit down with some other artist/s or striper/s and think of something cool to put on top or change "teacher's pet", with out breaking the film of the clear.

If you were to sand thru the clear to the base you would need to spot the color, hoping like hell it will match (tone and metamerism/color and metallic "lay") and then clear the whole panel. Also with one shot stripes on top of the clear, reclearing will be difficult (hard to scuff sand by stripes) and could cause the one shot to lift/wrinkle.

Put a Mooneyes or Honest Charlie's decal over it. worst you could do is try a little 1000 grit wet lightly on it, and if you see the ugly striping in the water, you know you're doing good. you should be able to get thru 1 clear and the striping without hurting the secondary clear coats (if there was enough put down to begin with.)

Rock on and keep us updated.

yeah thats what he wants me to to is to paint something over it in 1-shot. but i just wanted to see if i can get away with taking it off completely.

its right on the edge so it kind of sucks to paint something over it, but we'll see.

the guy that put that lettering on there outta be beaten.

    thanks for the advice.

I'm trying to think of something you could convert those letters into. All I've got so far is Preacher's Bet. Not much of an improvement. Maybe paint a gold brick over it. Or a pot of gold.

nobody stripes with one shot over base,,so there should be enough clear on to sand it off..then if you can sand it all flat should be able to buff it.

  14. sand it down and rattlecan primer it gray there.....Thats what Id do....
