okay so the other project i have right now is my dads 64 k10 with the big window now the front end on this truck is rather problematic you need to have special bushing machined for it and it keeps getting more expensive now we have a 74 k10 parts truck right now my question is this would it be easier to put the 74's front and rear end on the 64 or swap the 64 body to the 74 frame there is a wheel base difference and the newer frame isnt set up for a divorced transfer case the main reason my dad wants to swap the frames is so he can have power brakes but he has been planning this project since 2001 i just need to know the best rout to go with this because my dad is 53 and im not sure how much longer we can sit on this project it needs to be started
when I built a 64 C10 suburban years ago, I used a 65 GMC 4x4 frame, and later axles. Added power steering and brakes. Fun truck. so I guess my answer is use the later front end, modify the frame if needed to add power steering if he wants that, and add a power booster and master from a 70s truck.
thanks for the tip the truck already had power steering so thats done i really dont want to swap the frames simply because of the wheel base it would look weird i grew up in this thing its what gave me this glorious sickness that is loving old iron so i want it to stay mostly the same my dad is an over the road trucker so ill be doing most of the work to this because he deserves it
Correct. I think swapping parts over will be easier than a frame swap My son has a 61 we are going to put disk brakes on. We just cut up a doner 71 for the axle and front xmember. I'll find a link for you shortly Full Kustom, drunk mobile posting
It looks like it's even easier on your 64. Scroll down on this thread. It's the early c-10 bible http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?p=4450757 Full Kustom, drunk mobile posting
If you notch the frame (and fill back in) behind the p.s. gear like the later frames are done from the factory you will maintain equal turning radius in both directions.
