History 1955 Ford Customline

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by T Hudson, Oct 15, 2017.

  1. On Friday I was fortunate to become the next HAMB caretaker of the this little gem. As I understand it Tenbears sold it to Xtrom, then TerrytheK got it last year and I purchased it from him. My plan is to enjoy it and not muck it up while slowly fixing what needs fixed.

I invite the past caretakers to post pictures and their stories here. 1955g.jpg

  3. That is at my friend Mark's place. You can catch a glimpse of his '57 moredor over to the right. The '58 is there for some freshening up. It seemed like the good picture while I was standing there chatting.

Very interested in what and where the rear wheels came from. They look stock, but wider than the fronts. Anyone know if they're 7"? Are they original wheels off of something? Thanks.

  5. They are wider in the rear. At this time I can only share this pic to help.

    T,

Congrats on getting the car. I PM'ed Terry about that car this summer and thought long and hard about picking it up. It is a good runner and you should have a lot of fun with it. Keep us posted as you work on it.

Lloyd is what I always called that car! The middle name of the guy previous to me was Lloyd so it kind of stuck. Still miss that car. Overdrive really made it a fun driver. I think they rear wheels were 7". I didn't do much to the car other than drive it, put a generator on it and install the 4 barrel factory intake and Holley carb and air cleaner. Put a few thousand miles on it in 2016 while I had it!

  9. That B intake is a good upgrade. However the single crossover exhaust negates much of the improvement.

  10. My '55 is a Fairlane 4 door that my parents bought new, but I like the Customline trim better than the Fairlane. What is the 4th character of the serial number? That indicates the assembly plant. If the 4th character is an A, it was built at the Atlanta assembly plant and my father leaded the seams on it. He worked at the Atlanta plant 1952-1982. He was working lead in the body shop in '55.

These guys are H.A.M.B. members and 1952-59 Ford Social Group members looks like you may need them.

look close at the wheel you can see that a band was welded in to widen the wheel. Very popular thing to do years ago. You can see the seam .

Mid 80's to 1992 Crown Victoria's used a 15" X 7'' wheel with the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern the positive offset helps with the 1952-56 shallow rear wheel wells for a wider tire.

He does have a pair of dual rear-exit exhaust manifolds that came with the car when I got it, guessing they'll make it on there sometime.

Good plan. Have fun with it! And do some updates here from time to time!
