The second paragraph there talks about Wally Parks presenting a trophy, boy, haven't heard that name in a long time.
Phil told me that ol Gene's still live & kickin! He's building/racing some dragster. I hope to grow up to be something other than the grumpy ***hole I am.
Yeah he is, I just talked to him the other day. You start talking about building blown 303 Olds's w/ 4 port Hilborns and he lights all up & gets real interested. I called about having him flow my pump and got the advice to ditch the cam drive pump. He's a genius with the injection tune-ups.
Dennis!! A thousand thank yous to you, my friend! Ya know, Gene still looks the same. Just a few thousand miles on him. I didn't know KS Pitman raced an Olds. That's so cool. Roost, did you talk Gene into bring his 303 digger to the HAMB digs? That would make it impossible for m to miss. Aman, what name haven't you heard lately? Wally or trophy? Actually Wally MEANS tropht these days. At least in NHRA.
Gene Adams, father of the injected fuel motor. He set up and tuned lots of winners through the years.
I watched that car at the Colton Ca. dragstrip in the late 50,s. Standing right next to the starting line, Gene would load up that hydro and that olds *** end would jack up like a 'stink bug'. And yes it sounded 'BAD', was just awesome, fastest stock bodied car i had ever seen, and sounded like a fuel dragster.
Yeah... in another one of my magazines, there's a picture of it at the line and the people working the track have their fingers in their ears. The captions says something about it being one of the noisiest cars at the track.
