So...I just bought a 9 inch bronco rear end with no apparent history, but it still has a very rusty tag attached to it, what will the tag tell me? I have no experience with ford stuff, this will replace the existing 10 bolt under my 36 ford pickup, that's been there almost twenty years. Trouble is, the 10 bolt is 61 inches, years ago I offset a couple stock gm wheels to fit under the fenders, but that left me with no options to ever change wheels, as they wouldn't fit under the fenders, hence the rear end swap. Wheels shown are not on the truck, they're photoshopped.
yup, the tag will tell us a lot more if we can see it but if it's hard to photograph, you can go here http://www.fordification.com/tech/rearends_ford01.htm to see if you can figure it out. Lots of pages of codes to read, though
Ford diff tags are embossed (raised lettering), so unless very, very rusty, should be readable with a little sandpaper or wire brush. Ray
So, numbers are... top row, wem-A3 4ca bottom row 4.11 9 601c I know the gears are 4.11, meaning it's from a six cylinder bronco, but have no idea what year or what the rest of the numbers are. I appreciate the help.
from that link in my first post, we see it's from WEM-A3 Bronco '74-'76 4.11 9.0 NL 28 3300 lb. axle 28 is the axle spline count NL means non locking date code 4CA means it is from 1974, 3rd month (March), first week the 4.11 is the ratio, 9 is the ring gear size I think that's about all you can get out of it...does that help?
