Helped a buddy retrieve this today. Been sitting under a carport for almost 20 yrs. A few pics as found and a few after a trip thru the car wash. Has a dressed/built flathead and is extremely solid and straight. thumbnail (2).jpg thumbnail (3).jpg thumbnail (4).jpg thumbnail (5).jpg thumbnail (6).jpg thumbnail (15).jpg thumbnail (14).jpg thumbnail (13).jpg thumbnail (11).jpg thumbnail (9).jpg

Love it...I hope he got some vintage pics and the story on the history because it looks to have that period ambience...

  4. What an Outstanding place to start. Cars like this are showing up and changing hands more an more. That's a good thing! I was just wondering how an Owner can let such a nice car just sit. Then I realised all I needed to do for that answer is walk out, look at my 59 then go stand in front of the Mirror. Hope your Pal gives it a good home.

Nice old car! What's the plan on getting it fired up?

A lot of them are owned by older guys that were probably in their 50's or 60's when they were rodded, and as they grew older, health problems or just life in general got in the way and they were no longer able to care for the cars, so they parked them in what they thought would be a place to protect them. Time got away from them, and a year became 5, then 10 or 20. Some even p***ed on, and the relatives won't sell because it was so and so's car, it's part of the family, etc. So, they sit and go down even more until one day someone decides they'd rather have a few bucks than a hunk of rusting metal, and the lucky ones get sold. The unfortunate ones sit until they are nothing but s****.

As the baby boomer generation gets older, there will be a lot more cars like this found and bought.
Looks like a great start for a cruiser.

Very true. I've had some of my cars sitting longer than that, I do not consider them "forgotten", "lost" or "abandon".

  17. You d know about Marvel Mystery Oil I hope. That is always step one for a motor that's been sitting an extended period of time that should just run again.

Looks to be a helluva find.:) One point. It looks like a stock "Load-a-matic" distributor on an engine with a 4 BBL carb. That is not a happy combination given the special vacuum needs of the "Load-a-matic". If you get it running and have drive-ability problems, that's the first thing to suspect.

Car was located just west of Ferndale. Previous owner just lost interest, as "life" got in the way. And yes, couldn't have gone to a better home. By night's end, gl***, chrome, etc. all cleaned up. He already purchased a few nice replacement pieces for the grill. Plans are to clean up the interior, which is pretty decent, lower it and put org. wheels back on. Either run rings/caps or maybe cadillac caps, he's not sure. Working today to fire it up, but working cautiously so as not to hurt anything. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Update... Got it fired and backed off the trailer! Runs/sounds great. Turns out, it's a Motor City Flathead engine, BONUS!!

I was really lucky to get this car. ive known the owner since the late nineties and he quit driving it because the brake shoe bonding let loose in the rear. I told him if he ever wants to sell to call me and he finally did !!
