Thier website shows them hooking up a recirculating pump and a shower head to clean a rear axle mounted under a car. just keep pouring it on, and rust no more apparently... http://www.evapo-rust.com/page109.html

There is another product called UltraONE, works the same way, I think it was 25.00 a gal. with shipping. Works great. used on some 41 DeSota hinges I got to put hidden hinges on my 37 Terraplane. I think I seen it on this site

Thanks, Kirk. I called them today and have five gallons of it on the way, along with a quart of their product for removing oxidization from aluminum.

It should be emphasized that this is something that is designed to be used in a tank, preferably one with an airtight lid.

So what's the stuff taste like?

Try some EZ-Off oven cleaner. Betcha it works similarly and is pretty inexpensive.

I might work, but I don't know about less expensive. EZ-Off is like $3 for a can You'd need 30-40 cans to match what these guys are claiming, since it can be used over and over. Plus you can breathe while using this stuff. I about kill myself with fumes whenever I use EZ-Off for removing paint.

I'm not rtying to pimp this stuff...I was just pretty impressed

Does it contain phosphoric acid? That's what a lot of these contain. The results sound similar.

Sounds easier than the electrolysis I have tried a few times. That only works line-of-sight.

  7. They have several interesting products. The alumnum cleaner sounds interesting. I want to see what it does to an old slot mag. The msds lists Sodium Bisulfate as the active ingrediant at about ph 5.6-6 which is just about neutral. You can buy this at a chem supply house also.

The msds for the rust remover doesn't list the chemical contents saying "Formula Proprietary"
I've never seen an MSDS like that, the purpose is to provide information, yes?
PH reads around 7 which is a little toward basic. Obviously it isn't an acid.

    Thanks for the news KIRK.

Needless to say, I was amazed! Even the tapered rod part freed up and moves smoothly.I didn't even take the nut off, and it made it's way through the threads and cleaned them under the bolt too.

Maybe you guys already know about this stuff, but I didn't. I'll be buying more of it!

I'll update this post with the info for you when I get in to work in the morning.[/quote]

Sounds a lot like the PF-47 powder that was on the market in the 70's. A gallon can cost $12 shipped back then and you add about a teaspoon per quart of water. Keep reusing until it is black and no longer effective. No acids or alkalines and you could stick your hands in the solution.
Ask that company if they sell a powdered version as for $18 you are buying mostly water.

BTW, their ad says that Auto Zone is a distributor.

    SHOCKED THE HELL OUTTA ME.

Ok, on the info in this thread I picked up a can of this stuff to play with. Hadn't gotten around to it yet when my wife's car got creamated from a car parked next to getting tourched.
Whole drivers side gone, had to replace both doors, toased the front and rear qtrs.

Ground all the paint off the qtrs, the weather turned to crap and the bursitis kicked my ass. I took the Evapo Rust, soaked a clean shop rag, and wiped down the bare metal. It sat for two days and nights, outside with frost on the first night.

NOT a freakin spot of rust, none, nada, zip.

Beside that when I was finished with the rag I sat it on an original untouched 48 F1 frame rail, when I remembered it a few days later I picked it up and you could tell it had been workin.

    This stuff is cool.

  12. You mean this ? Been using it quite a while now.....yeah it works. It's amazing stuff, you can make old stuff look like it was manufactured yesterday.

Check the "Full Screen Slide Show" here :

Don't buy it from that place though, they're too expensive, I get it for about 85.00 a 5gal. delivered price.

You just rig up a sump pump and an old shower head, catch it with a tarp slung under the thing you're doing, the sump pump filters the rust bits out.
