Thanks to Gary Reynolds for posting a cool photo of the Fairfax District in Los Angeles...(for some reason, the reply button does not work)

    Hello,

We used to frequent this area back in the late 60’s and stop at our favorite restaurant, Canter’s just up Fairfax. It was the best place for great meals even into the late night. The whole area was a plethora of cool shops that sold plenty of “stuff” for all of us young people, in 66-68. When we were invited to see a TV show being recorded, we drove up to this same area and went to the CBS building across the street. This whole area is the Fairfax District and includes the famous Farmers Market.

With the recent addition of The Grove, it draws more people back to this area for shopping and just to visit. For those with daughters/granddaughters, there is a nice American Girl Doll Store (American Girl Place) at the Grove. The whole area is rich in history of So Cal and had a post here, back in July 2017.
    (Gilmore Stadium, Gilmore Field, etc...)

"Long before the scads of retail stores, restaurants and parking structures, before CBS Television City and before the luxury shopping metropolis known as the Grove, LA’s Original Farmers Market was the site of Arthur Gilmore’s 256-acre dairy farm.

Gilmore, who had been looking to expand his farm, knew he would first need to provide more water for his livestock. While drilling for water one afternoon, the farmer struck oil and in an instant, he was rich. Cows were replaced by oil derricks, which would continue to harvest oil, though city officials would soon tell Gilmore the intrusive rigs would no longer be permitted. Gilmore vacated the property for his next venture, a sports venue he would name Gilmore Stadium.

The Farmers Market seemed to enjoy a never-ending heyday for decades until the 1990s, when its popularity began to wane and business declined significantly. “Things really started to slow down and a lot of the vendors were struggling. So it really helped us when the Grove came along,”

Today, the Original Farmers Market continues to enjoy a bustling existence and remains one of LA’s most popular places for locals and tourists. ...Just meeting people—all kinds of different people. The Market has the best atmosphere. It’s a great place to come.”

Looks like George Fonder in the Leitenberger Offy at Indy in 1952. He ran all day and was around at the finish.

Now known as Riverside Park. The gazebo is gone, as are a lot of the trees. The bridge is still there, and being used, it is undergoing a restoration right now. However, this view is blocked by another bridge.
