I just bought this 37 (instead of that 30 roadster ). the seats are nice, but the cloth covering is stiff as a board. the cushion below is still soft and you can depress the seat by pushing down. i'm afraid of splitting the cloth when getting in/out. anything I can apply to soften the material? thanks, Mike

It won't improve with age. Save up some money for new threads while you finish wearing out the cloth. If you are happy with the material start looking for the correct match so you only have to redo the seats. SMS in Portland Oregon and Lebaron Bonney would be good places to start looking.

It is more than likely dry-rotted. Try using a steamer to soften it up.

I am an upholsterer by trade and I have never found anything to soften cloth and only a few to soften vinyl/leather. I would recommend them being recovered if they were brought to me.
