should have just done this in the first place. Borgeson box works perfectly. Costly mistake. Oh well, thats hotrodding!
never did like the mercury hood scoop/bump. cut the centre section of a '54 Lincoln hood out and grafted it into the Merc hood.
Did you get the whole kit ? I have a rack someone fabbed onto my 54 and it's just not right. I wanted to do the borgeson box too but didn't think it would work since I have a 302 in mine but I'm still looking for options Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
the box has the proper bracket to bolt right to the existing holes in the frame. I bought a non power steering centre link off e-bay. The factory 5.0L headers that i have on there right now needed to be bashed in pretty good to clear the box, but Headman has a header that will fit. They are on my list of things...... Do the box conversion. So much more solid.
What's the difference with the center link ? I don't have one but my main problem is that my oil pan is behind the cross member I don't know if I'll have room or not. I don't know what to do Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
how did you mount a 302 with a rear sump in the same place as your rear steer rack and pinion? the centre link should go where the rack is.
Wow you are making good progress! I will have to show Don your hood modification. We have been working on the fake scoop and other problems on his hood for many weeks now. He is block sanding it (again) as I write this.
Like I said it is a mess steering set up wise , the rack is mounted to the bottom of the cross member so it hangs down and tie rods are at a bad angle so I need to figure out how to go back to somewhat stock Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Knghtcadi, in order to get my 5.0L to fit, I bought a package from Jegs that had the proper front sump oil pan and pickup and a timing cover with the corrected dipstick location. You may need a different water pump as well. To use a steering box you will need the idler arm and mounting bracket on the passenger side frame rail, the manual centre link, inner and outer tie rods and a pitman arm. Might be a bit of an expensive job if you need everything.
Yeah it probably will be a bit costly but I still need it no matter what , the car has no turning radius and it needs a new rack anyway so it's just better to convert it. Plus I can't lower it anymore with this setup , I have the Aerostar springs in it but it needs to be lower so I'll just start collecting the parts. Thanks a lot Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Great car Mike. Most people would have walked away if they saw the start with only a pile of parts. Groeten uit Nederland, Hennie
took the body off AGAIN. Hopefully for the last time. Just buttoning up the last of the little details.
Great work so far. You still have that Merc cut out? I've been looking for one for my 55 Ford wagon hood haha
thanks guys! Now this build is getting to the fun part. Bolting her back together and seeing some progress!
hey ratrod, if you are willing to make the 3500 kilometre trek to the great frozen north, it's all yours!
cleaned up the cluster and got a 12v-6v converter. Also squeezed in a volt meter where the amp meter used to be.
