My old coupe is original kind of rough, question I have; looks like most of the battery items rusted out or gone. There are a pair of hold downs on ebay for about 10.00. I would still have to make the tray. Should I move the battery location? Should I buy the hold downs and keep battery under floor. Or just fab. my own set-up Down the road I may want to convert to 12 V.
If you want to keep it sort of original just make a tray. Not that hard with some strap stock. You will have to make it at least 1" deeper as the batteries available are to high.If not ,buy a marine plastic case and put it behind the seat.I have done it both ways. The only problem with the batt in stock location is if you want to run dual exhaust - its in the way.
Thanks I never even thought about the exhaust. If I make my own pan do I really need the factory hold down brackets?? Do they hook in the frame? Thanks again
Within a few months of purchasing my '36 coupe in September 1952 I removed the battery box from under the floor boards to a location behind the seat on the right side. A battery located under the floor boards will present problems for future improvements, like a dual exhaust and hydraulic brakes. While you are at it, you should relocate the foot mounted starter switch to a push ****on located on the right side of the dash.
Master cylinder clearance if hydraulic brakes are in your future Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
yes , if it's going to be stock leave it in the floor. as others have said , it gets in the way of exhaust and a dual master cylinder if you plan on rodding it. on a `35 ford tudor with a SBC i did in the 80's i put the battery in the original location....i was able to get exhaust around it , but ended up using a single master cylinder for clearance to the battery on my`36 coupe i have a dual master cylinder and the battery behind the seat on the p***enger side
