I am putting a 1953 merc flathead in my 27 T on ASI rails and was wondering if or should I change to waterpumps with the motormount brackets on them-larger belts/pulleys I believe or use the setup I have with the angled engine mounts and make up my own brackets? Everything is intact and excellent shape but looks like mounting the engine would be easier with the other style waterpumps-also what would I need to convert it? Thanks for any help and hope I clarified my issue.
8rt truck pumps are wide belt. I believe '53 Merc's were narrow belt. Using truck pumps means changing the crank pulley, generator pulley, and fan pulley. Another option is the 1950/51 Merc pumps that are very similar in appearance to truck pumps but they are narrow belt. I I remember correctly the '49 Mercs had the similar type pump but were wide belts. The narrow belt Merc pumps are hard tp find and no one repops them. If you decide to go that route figure on sending them to Skip or so other rebuilder for a redo.
